Joe, my 550 holds the entire country using Mapsource's 2011 map set. I don't have any music loaded, & only 1 picture for the splash screen, but the base unit holds the entire country. I do agree though on the memory, all the Garmin units are going to have to increase memory, or condense the map sets.
The Zumo 550 will hold the entire us. You may have to delete all of the voices other then then ones that you use. And delete all of the tracks prior to update. I have the Zumo down to just two different voices, and delete all tracks prior to updating maps and it works everytime for me. JMO
I'd spend some time with it well in advance of your trip - there is a learning curve to creating routes and exporting them and so on.
It is very easy and just like any other GPS to find a destination and hit GO but if you want to customize routes it takes some time to learn. That was my experience anyway.
Well said! There are several great features that are poorly documented or are just not very intuitive. I still haven't figured out how to alter a portion of a route. In Google Maps, I can just drag the blue line to the road I want to follow and the displayed route and instructions change. I haven't grasped that yet with MapSource.
I'm sure I have all the voices loaded and probably a bunch of tracks not to mention some mad map routes and quite a few others I've saved while finding some nice rides.
I'm planning on taking a 2200 mile trip to Colorado next month and would like to map out the whole trip beforehand.
Rather than storing the entire trip as one route, I would load the trip in day routes.
My question is, if I create the route and get off of the main route to get gas, find a restaurant, ect, will the Zumo allow me to go back to the route that I have loaded, or will it recalculate and create a different route to my next destination?
If I am using a route I created, I turn off the Auto Calculate Mode. In Tools -> Navigation -> Recalculation Mode -> Prompted. When you get off the track it will ask Recalculate?. Press NO. Your route will be highlighted so you can navigate back to it but it won't recalculate and mess up your route.
