Default crank runout

i have an 07 streetglide and am thinking of doing the 103" upgrade. awhile back
i heard of crank runout issues with some of the 07's . just wondering if any of
you guys that have 07's have had any crank issues with bigger builds. should i
beef up the crank while they are in there? also will i get a good "bang for the
buck" with the se kit and cam change or should i go with an s&s hot set?

My builder basically said it this way "You can do it now or do it later". I've learned over time that if your questioning yourself you've basically answered yourself. My '07 does have crank run-out issues and they will be addressed this winter {or before}.LOL LOL

Weld and true your crank, and while your in there, install timkins. You should have no problems with 103 build, but you would probably be wise to have your builder check the runout before hand. HD has increased the allowable tolerences 3 times in the last 2 years. Probably due to having had to replace too many. Easy to do from the cam plate end with a dial indicator clamped to a firm base and totaing the rear tire whle on the lift.

I have the 124 hot set up kit. It is scary fast, bulletproof but expensive. The stock flywheels and rods are puny compared to the S&S.

Most guys who have crank issues have run at high revs for long periods. If you are a thrasher a new bottom end is a good investment.

king to the power of three.....

How many miles did you have on your King3 when you did all those engine mods. That's some serious stuff!

I had 6400 km, call it 4000mi (done in 2 months, you couldnt get me off the thing). I would have done it straight away but the kit hadnt come out in January. Its literally brand new.

She has about 1000mi on her now and I have just got the 4000 limiter removed. She isnt running right above 4800, but is still very fast. I am running a canned S&S map. She needs a few hours on the dyno.

When I did my 103 build I measured the crank run out on the cam side, before installing new cams. I was .003 runout. It is easy to check. All you need is an indicatior and a magnetic base.

like everyone else has said get the crank runout checked -- their were some failed cranks on the 07's but like every other bad thing it gets to "bogey man status" and seems like an edpidemic, IMHO it was not that common of an occurence.

If you are going to go in the bottom -- I would go past a 103 and at least a 107 ($75 difference in price) or more than likely a 113/117/120/124.

more than likely your warranty has expired -- I would look into aftermarket complete motor kits S&S, TMan, R&R, AMS, Zippers, HQs I have not heard anything bad about these.

my (sold) 07 SG had a HQs 103 105hp/116tq with a bad tune and tru duals--I stunted (wheelies, rolling burnouts, getting it sidewayse) on the bike for 16,000+ miles not one motor problem.

I was concerned about crank run out and had it checked before the build it was well withing the limits
