Default Road Trip

Wife and I are thinking of plannin a road trip to Mena, AR or Hatfield, AR to do some riding in the mountains there. Will trailer the bikes up from SE Texas (have to take the 3 dogs) and either camping at the state park there or renting a cabin.

anyone have any idea if late August/September is good there, places to ride, things to see, etc.

would like some info before I make reservations.

Thanks

Default Riding Arkansas

Mena is a great place but since the Tornado last month I'm not so sure.
You might want to check as you get closer to your date.

Talimenia Trail Scenic Drive runs over into Oklahoma on top of Rich Mountain.
Great ride that time of year.

Ark hwy 270 runs over to Hot Springs and takes you thru the Quachita National Park, that would be a nice outing.

Mt Magazine is another great place to visit, Arkansas's highest point. They have some nice cabins there but pricey ..

I'd check out riding the Pig Trail Scenic Byway on Hwy 23 north of Ozark AR.
Just 30 miles long but a nice curves and switchbacks. It was in several magazines as a popular rides.

check out my site for some information, mostly about NW Arkansas but you might find something useful.

Also if your camping, you might look at Devils Den State Park.

Default Bikes, Blues, and BBQ

Another thought is Bikes, Blues, and BBQ in Fayetteville.

We usually have a nice rally, last year there was over 250,000 bikers in town.
( so the paper said )

Mena was very cool: rode the Talimena Highway on spring break with my wife, but I can only remember one campsite on that road. I don't know what the town is like since the tornado. You might consider the Eureka Springs area: lots of great turns and hills around there as well, even though Eureka Springs has some not-so-friendly noise ordinances.
Ride safe.

well thanks to y'all advice I've made reservations. Tornado was in mena which is 10 miles from them. they have no damage..

We're going late september (anniversary) so we'll get to spend it in a hot tub in the cabin after riding.

www.meadowpinecabins.com is where we decided to stay.

Plan on doing some of the route's y'all gave us above. Plus I'll be able to take the 4-wheeler and go check out the trails!
