The little return springs are a pain too. First time- good three hours.

Second time half that.

Default Be careful

If you take your time and use a book, it is not terribly difficult. Both the brake and clutch switches embedded inside get destroyed very easily, and before you are done, you spent what a shop can do it for. Bagger controls are harder than others because of cruise and radio switches. My shop charges $150 to install and for most non-mechanics, it's a bagain!

I would take your time, be careful and try putting these on yourself. Like everyone here, it's personally rewarding and cost saving when you do it yourself.

Perhaps someone on the boards are close enough to you distancewise to help. I have helped bikers near me before.

all I can say is be careful! I had mine done at dealer and they didn't do it right, ended up screwing up the stereo and now I've got assorted lights coming on in the dash and the cruise only works part time, all due to incorrectly installed switch housings. They will fix it when ever the monsoons we've had over the past month are over I'll take it back again to them.

I did the chrome controls on my other bike during a handlebar swap and the switch cap/housing swap is a very tedious job. Would I pay someone 3 hours labor to do it? Hell no. Would I spend another three hours doing it on my Ultra? Hell no. I'm leaving the controls black. Haven't you heard? Black is the new chrome.

How much is the whole job costing you?
And how much are you saving by doing it yourself?

Then ask yourself if having chrome housings is worth it.

My experiences in life have taught me that sometimes the cheapest is the most expensive.

Like so many have said here, do it yourself, even if you have to do it twice because the first time wasn't totally correct (voice of experience. lol). You won't regret it. Also, as I found out the hard way and $70..00 later, if you take the housings all apart, USE THE SHIM on the hand grip and watch out for the brake light switch underneath when putting it all together. you will break it very easy and it doesn't just "plug in". You will rerun wires.

I did mine but have an issue with the cruz switch as the housing has the switch sitting at such an angle that the switch cover hits the audio switch cover and will not let the cruz switch move enough to engage.

I have one small note of caution...if you do it yourself run some fine sand paper or a fine needle file around all the switch openings so any little casting burs don't scratch up your switch covers

Default How to remove the cruise buttons?

Hi,
Getting ready to install chrome switch housings on my Road King Classic.
I have done them on my old Fatboy but would like to know if there is a trick to getting the CRUISE BUTTONS off without breaking them.
My brother just had his new street glide done at the dealer and they broke his and now it has me a little nervous.
Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
