Default RG mirrors

I'm not too happy with the stock mirrors on my 08 RG. 3/4 of the mirror is perfect view of my arm, from my wrist to just under my shoulder. To see behind me I have to pull my elbow in and tilt my head over. Problem is, every once in a while a car will show up beside me and I have no idea where he came from. Obviously he just drove up but I effectively have no mirrors unless I'm making an effort to look. This isn't safe.

So I went to the harley dealer to purchase the long stem version of the stock tear drop mirror. Well, I've been informed they have been discontinued.

So what do other folks do? What about the Harley split vision mirror, the one with the small convex mirror on the outside. Anyone use it, like it?

I've been considering the kuryakyn long stem convex, anyone have anything to say about this....

Let me know. Thanks.

I'm not saying your dealer is wrong, but it looks like the long stem mirrors are still available online at H-D (link below); if not there's usually some available on e-bay. I have them on my RG and they are a huge improvement over stock. Just a guess, but your dealer may have been thinking of the mirror stem extensions, which are no longer on the H-D site?

called around, found a dealer 2 hours away that has one set. I paid for it over the phone with my cc. Asked the girl to go and get them, in her hand and look to make sure they were the right ones, then if the computer is screwed I won't have wasted a trip.

Am I the only one who thinks the stock set up sucks?

Nope. I could see my shoulders really well, but that was about it. I went with the black buckshot mirrors, but those hit the windshield when you turn the bars all the way to lock the forks! Pretty lame design if you ask me.

I have the same complaint but changing my shield at the moment so don't want to look at that until i get the new shield on as I suspect there may be some clearance issues.

I do not have that problem at all with my mirrors. I have Wild1 8.5" mini apes pulled back a little and I have the mirrors situated where the right 1 is for my rearview and the left is for my blind spot. Never saw my arms or shoulder and I am 6'5" with longer arms.

Nope, they are far to short. I had a black set of stock mirrors off my V-Rod and threw those on there, much better with the longer stem.

Get the Chrome-plated extenders they relocate the mirrors approximately two inches higher. Product ID: 91907-87 Price: $29.9. You will not be sorry. I have them on my FLHTC and now am able to see everything behind me with out any strain on my neck. Engine vibration does not bother them.
