i am experiencing an issue on my 2005 EGC. the speedo drops out and the radio starts to cut in and out. i noticed today that the radio was acting weird today to, it wouldn't drop volume from the radio at a stop. but it did get real loud and real quiet at times. noticed that when coming to a stop the idle will go down to about 500 rpms, then come back up to 950 (normal)
as i am in the garage on the stand idleing to find the issue it really started to run rough.
smelled of gas loading up. but the idle was staying at 950.
didnt mention that on a trip last week, an HD dealer "changed" the speedo sensor.
i dont think they did. it looks like a hard time to pull the plug out from under the starter. plus they only charged me an hour for labor.
how long and what would it take to change out the sensor? plus any idea on what the issue could be?
ok i did the vehicle code diagnostics test and it came up with this
P0501 VSS Low EFI
VSS - Vehicle Speed Sensor. Used as an input for idle speed control
could my sensor be bad again? like i mentioned above the said they replaced it. but after looking at the wire from the sensor goes under the starter and the plug is about the size of a quarter, i dont see it fitting under there or around there. which leads to me they really didnt change it in less than an hour.
Take it back to that dealer, and question them, tell them to frikken fix it and credit the last charge against the actual fix. Dont be mean but dont be your normal good natured self either. Is your bike actually Fuel Injeccted? Or you could judt trade it in and join the reat of the 09 club in the Fla crew.

yeah its like a plague there in the FL crew section.
i took it to a north GA dealer to have them "fix" the issue the first time.

It takes about 10 minutes to change a speedo sensor on an Eglide. I had the same problems on my 05 EGC. The dealer changed 2 sensors and a speedo. The problem was solved when I did a paint job on the inner fairing. There was a loose ground wire on the upper triple tree. I tightened it up and haven't had a problem since.
Think the speed sensor could have some debris on it? Mine did & on occasion the speedo would wig out. When that would happen the radio volume would drop off too. I could shut the bike off for a couple min. & then it would usually settle down. The radio volume is speed sensitive and when the speedo drops off the radio automaticly turns down the volume. Good Luck!
