Default Two Upgrades

I installed one of the windshields from FLHTcustomwindshields.com to day and must say I am impressed. I got the 14" Flat top in light tint. It does help with the wind and also make the stereo sound much better, only had to use 40% volume on the highway, usually at least 70% or better. I also had a set of Dunlop Elite 3's put on. With only 50 miles or so, can't say to much, but they do seem to handle the road better and not follow the grooves. Will put about 2000 on in the next two weeks, so should have a better idea how they wear and handle after the trip to Arlington National Cemetery with the Honors at Arlington ride, and a few days in the mountains of NC and Ark. Thanks for all the tips about the windshield and tires..

I have two of their shields and love them. You will notice how scrawny the stock shields look now. I went with the Michelin Commanders and I'm very pleased with their performance also.

Enjoy that ride and ride safe!

Funny, I just wrote http://www.customflhtwindshields.net/index.html a thank you note for my shield. I got a Flat Top also, but I got the 9". I like to look over the windshield in lieu of through it and my shield outperformed the 12" stock a ton (and my 6" of course). They didn't even have a flippie thing on the end!

I am 6'1", 30" inseam, I ride with pretty good posture and right after installing, I thought I should have gotten the 10" as I saw over it a bit more than I thought I would. I took the bike on a 120 mile trip and that shield just rocked! I had wind, but no turbulence to speak of until I hit 85mph and even then it was mild. I had thought of the Klockwerks 10.5, the SSC from Cee Baileys and the windvest, etc...but, for 62 bucks +10 to ship, figured it was worth the risk and I'm glad I went for it! Now I'm wondering what would happen had I gotten a 10" - if it would be even better but that 9" rocks.

I had Michelin Commander on the rear, got about 9300 miles out of it. So compared to what I was getting with Dunlop HDs, Continental's, and one other that I can't remember, guess that wasn't to bad. I did notice tonite when I rode to lodge the Elite's are a harder compound and don't seem to give as much on bumps, etc. Also the windshield will some take getting used to at night, especially on new asphalt with no lines.

I ordered the 10" flat top but after having it a while I decided to switch to the 8" because going over hills with the dark tint I would lose the road, can't see thru it at night and looking thru a shield at any time is a bad idea anway. And i'm 6'2" btw.

Guess I haven't been riding with windshields long enough, to understand why looking through the shield is a bad idea. You look through you windshield on your car, what is the difference. I ordered the 14" because I don't like looking over the top, or having the wind beat my helmet around. We rode today and the wife says it has stopped the buffering she was feeling on her helmet, so she is happy that means my life is easier..LOL..

I think it's really personal perference. I like to look over the windshield because when riding in the rain the windshield gets covered and I can still see because I'm looking over the windshield. Also, as bugs accumulate on the windshield it doesn't cause a problem, you don't have to try and look through all the mess.

I got prices on the Elite 3's last week. I'm going to try them soon after all the rave reviews here.

I rode yesterday and put another 100 or miles on them, and they are great on rain grooves, tar snakes and ruts. They do seem to take some getting used to, in my opinion because the compound in a lot stiffer than most other tires I have tried.
