That sure doesn't soudn right, I just got quoted $421 for labor for installing ALL of my add-ons on the new bike I jsut bought. This included Chorme Switch housing, levers, brake and Clutch cylinders, wiring harness for the rear signal conversion, shorty antennaes, dash trim kit. Now some of these are pretty damn simple but the point is they quoted about 5 hours labor at $76 an hour. This says they figured over 3 hours to do your switch caps...WOW

Now I didn't pay it, I got them to do it for their cost since I WAS buying a bike from them

Read his post closely...he's saying the switch covers (housings) not the buttons. 3 hours is a little steep but $25 is not the correct price either... if it is you need to go to that indy for everthing !!! I don't think we are getting apples for apples... I may be wrong.

You are doing the same thing the people who are mad at the car companies are doing. You state that HD should be ashamed. That may be true in a way, but first consider the franshise arrangements that all US auto companies and HD have. They all own and operate their own dealerships. I do not know how HD dealers pay the techs, but from wat I have heard he auto dealers pay minimum wage plus commision. Do I have to explain how that comes together? HD did not quote you that price, the dealer did. I don't like the franshise model myself. I think it has cost the big three big time. In my opinion, when you take your bike to a dealer, the service person should be working for HD and he should be getting a living wage with no commision. If that was the it worked, he would have less motivation to cheat you. He would still have a tendency to pad heis hours, but that would be something that HD could deal with based on statistical analysis.

Sounds like a simple mis understanding to me...... Switch Housings -vs- switch buttons -covers.

To change the switch housings is about 1 hour @$90/hr?

To change the switch buttons is about 3 hrs @$90/hr

This is just based on having done it myself a few times in the garage.

Sheeshus !. Recently, I had my mechanic do 10 items (Mostly Chrome Bling) on my new Ultra. He quoted 4 hours at $250 including tax OTD and told me to ask one of the salesperson to give me a bike to ride while it's being worked on. Had a blast riding on 2 which was my old ride, '06 RKC and demo'ed a '09 SG 2 hours each as I topped both of them off with Gas as an common courtesy. Not bad deal, tho.

Get your guns out and shoot 'em down,

Thorey

If you're changing the buttons(switches), then that's where the high amount is coming from. They're a pain.
