My bike started hesitating and stalling out yesterday when I was accelerating and going to a higher gear. When I would stop it would rev up all the way and then quit running. I was able to get it restarted but it kept doing the same thing. The check engine light is on with a P0118 code.
The bike has 1200 miles on it. At 1k I had the 1st service, SE high flow kit, V&H Ovals and the HD Stage-1 download. The bike ran fine for a couple of hundred miles with no indication of any problems.
I plan on trailering back to the dealer when they open up. I'll keep you all updated.
Picked up my bike yesterday afternoon. The tech said the electrical wire to the ECU was not snapped in all the way. He put 60 miles on the bike in 2 seperate rides. I put 50 miles on it last night. No signs of any problems so far. Hopefully the got it right.
Something worth mentioning here is the tech said the high idle was probably because the bike lost power. When the bike is restarted it remembers the last throttle position.
He explained the manual procedure for resetting the TPS:
With the RUN switch in the ON position.
Turn the Ignition switch on and off 3 times.
Wait at least 15 seconds between iterations.
I believe the bike should be able to reset the TPS on it's own? I suppose I could perform some tests on my bike to see what happens? Anybody have any experience with this?
yes, if you shut off the motor while you've got the throttle open at all, your bike will remember that setting when you go to start it the next time. and you'll end up with high idle. remember when you'd see guys rev their chevy trucks right before shutting them off? with your harley if you do that,it'll give you the hi speed throttle problem. and not only that, it's quite harmful to an engine in that you're introducing raw gas into a cylinder which will not be burned, but rather sit there washing your oil film off the walls and rings etc. hope this helps.
Same problem with my bike, threw 8 codes. Dealer tracked it down to a bad/loose pin in the wire harness that hooks up to the ECU. Bike went into limp home mode. Bike had 53 miles when it happend. Running great now.
