I have an '06 ex-police RK that my boy rides. I plan to upgrade it at the end of this year's riding season, at which point it will have about 10,000 miles on it.
Is there a list somewhere of the things that should be done to bring it up to the latest spec. For instance, I think the primary and/or cam chain tensioners need to be upgraded?? What else?
you don't have to worry about the primary chain tensioner. It works fine and if you need to adjust it, it's easy. I upgraded to the SE cam chain tensioner kit but I wouldn't say with 10,000 miles you NEED to, maybe just take a look at them if you want. Other than that, if it's running fine and not using a lot of oil then just run it.
BTW, I hope you did a stage 1 of some type to it already. Mine ran REALLY hot before I added a fuel richener.

my thought as well would be to swap out the tensioners...i have seen them scrapped from
500 miles to 20000 miles, and they arent expensive....swapping out the chain for gear drive cams would be better....a stage one is good, i did the 95inch kit but i found it ran very warm in traffic, so depending how you drive sould be the deciding factor...i love the neck snapping 95 kit, but losing first gear due to heat in traffic sucked big...so be careful.
choose wisely young jedi....
with the heat buildup, first gear kinda started to go away...slipping and chugging...
mind you, as i said it depends on how you ride, i use mine as a day to day driver to and from work...stuck in traffic and up in the 90's temperature wise in the summer....never had an issue before the 95 upgrade, but after the upgrade it ran very hot by comparison, so gettin stick in traffic was a nightmare...funny though, when i got the 2007 streetglide and everyone was griping about the heat, i really didnt notice...hehehehe
I'd think about switching to that hydraulic tensioner kit if you rally wanna do something. At 10,000 you don't have to, but if you're itchin to do something, that would be the most meaningful upgrade for reliability purposes. I just replaced mine with stock ones at 22,500, and they showed wear, but not excessive.
