If you like the looks of TD's put them on - they sound and look great and perform very well and the mid-range improvement is great fun. You will realize a bit more torque with a 2-1 and some of them look pretty good (Bassani, for instance). I've had both types on many bikes and currently have Rinehart's on my Streetglide. Don't miss the 2-1 at all. In fact the mid-range improvement is pretty fun.
Maybe ask yourself when was the last time you whacked the throttle open at 1500-2000 rpm's. That might end any conflict you may have over the "must have low end torque" argument. If I lost any with my TD's I sure don't miss it 'cause the midrange fun factor is way up.
While I can't compare touring bikes........My first Harley had dual drag pipes. Best sounding bike ever!!! That said...I love the sound of my new RKC with D&D Fat Cat 2 into 1. I also love that it does not look like everyone else's touring bike. The 2 into 1 gives it an edgy kind of look that i'm into.
the 09 2-1-2 is a good headpipe best of both 2-1 performance with true duel looks and sound there is no real gains from changing headpipe over just throwin on some good slip ons.
