Default Broken Starters

Good day riders. Again I come to thuis forum seeking assistance, advice and guidance.
I own a '03 FLHTCU that has the stage 2 upgrade.
In the past 3 years I've had to replace 3 starters. All have been broken.
The reason I have been told for this problem is:
1) A higher compression engine is harder on the "normal" starter;
2) The timing on a carb. engine is "fixed" off the flywheel and unlike an EFI engine, the timing is not "adjusted" on cold start ups;
3) the only way to correct this problem is by putting in engine decompression values.

To some degree; most of this makes sense to a "non mechanical" type person; however, after reading this forum for years, I would like to receive some feedback.
Is this the "only" way to cure this problem?

By the way, (BTW), I've have regularly changed my battery; every two years, ensuring that there is always max. current available for start-up. I've been told that starter "kick back" will happen with a weak battery.

So that's the extent of my knowledge and information with this problem.

Now it's over to you guys......

Just had one replaced on my 08 Street Glide (35,000 miles); it was replaced under warranty and the dealership didn’t even blink. They listened to the starter and changed it with no prompting from me. The service writer told me HD had had a bad run of starters.

I have had two replaced on mine. It kicked back on me at a gas stop on my two month old (a week after the warranty expired!) and broke the idler gear in it. Dawg told me what parts would fit, I went to the starter and generator shop and picked up the gear for $4.00. I spent about $50.00 on gaskets and primary fluid at the Harley shop and I was back on the road. It took me about 3 1/2 or 4 hours to do the job, but I didn't know what I was doing. I just broke out the shop manual and took my time. It was a piece of cake.
