Hmmm? This ones got me by the *****, I tried to adjust the bags but i found out pretty quickly that you really can adjust where they sit. I'm at a loss.. Off to Harley I go..
No problems like that on my Sundowner seat (51630-06). Did you get the Road King or the Road Glide Sundowner seat by mistake? I believe there are noticeable differences in fitment.
My Sundowner just touches the corners of the bag lids. I moved the bags back as far as I could. No damage yet. It also touches and possibly rubs the tops of the side covers. I put some body guard (pretty thick clear plastic film) on them so it wouldn't rub the paint, but I don't know how it will come off if I ever want to take it off.
He sold me Part # 51726-05. you have a completely different part # on your 07. Is yours the SG style?
SG1 thats exactly the problem I'm having.
I'm looking in the 07 Parts catalog now. Your part # 51726-05 is for the "Sundowner Deep Bucket Seat - Smooth". Says it fits '97 and later Road King and FLHX models.
My part #51630-06 is for the "Sundowner Deep Bucket Seat - Street Glide Stitching". Says if fits '06 and later FLHX and '97 and later Road King models.
The seat width and passenger pillion width are the same on both models. Doesn't appear to be any difference between the two, other than the stitching. If the dealer has both models on hand, check them out side by side and see if there's any difference.
I know this is an old thread but I also had the same issue on my 06 Ultra. The seat rubbed on the front inside corners of the bag lids. Never did figure it out but that bike is gone now.
Well i just returned from rainconia NH with my new sundowner seat. We rode almost 1000 miles in 4 days, the seat was super comfortable no fatigue at all....(I was in love). Took the seat off to thoroughly wash the bike only to find that not only did it wear the paint off the insides of my bag lids it also wore the paint away from the tops of both side covers! My question is WHY would Harley R&D allow this to happen? Are they going to pay for the respray of those parts? Are they going to refund my money? I Know the answer I just wanted to vent! If your considering the sundowner touring seat beware, super comfortable and super destructive!
I bought this seat back in 06 for my FLHX brought it back to the dealer the next day because of it rubbing the corners of the saddlebag lids. I actually had to push the lid into the skirt of the seat to get them to close. The riders seat area is too wide.
