Could it have been those custom hi-tech $0.99 Autozone valve stem caps on his wheels? I get beat by those all the time! If I had only..........................
Foiled again!
Seriously, an insult to all the entries. I got it. Figure out how much your entry fee was relative to a traffic ticket and go speeding to break even! Then again, if your luck would be like mine, you'd be pulled over by that very bike that won. Now THAT would suck! Would be funny though.
About 2 years ago I was at a CLASSIC CAR show and when it came down to the awards, one of the awards went to a completely stock 1996 Camaro..... I was pissed off. I didn't mind that someone else won, I was pissed because it's a CLASSIC CAR show and newer cars always find their way in. I'm sick of people showing up with newer cars (especially ones that have a body lift on them just to fit their 24" wheels under it)..... rant complete
Every bike show, I've ever been to.... ever seen..... I see the winner, and think to myself WTF??????
ever see those shows on TV? drunken people who wouldn't know a kick starter from a tire, get to vote....
Don't get me wrong.... I've seena bunch of first class bikes win shows too.
Opinions are like A-holes...Don't dwell or fret over something small. I personally wouldn't enter any contest cuz I'd want to ride and not to worry over stupid folks who can't read or doesn't understand the sign "Don't touch, but look" as they still do touch it which infuriates me the most.
Now, Chill out and have a choice of your beverage.
But one thing to take into consideration is the two VLD PD bikes are the first police bikes here in south Jersey...
Maybe it depends on your definition of "South". There are motor patrol units in Trenton, Willingboro, Cherry Hill, Camden, Wildwood, Cape May and Atlantic City. All but perhaps AC are using HDs. Hardly a novelty.
I learned 30 years ago that car shows are pure politics when it comes to awards. Haven't participated in one ever since. Sort of a "first time, last time" thing. Never again. Evidently, bike shows are as well. Bummer.
I had a friend enter his bike in a similar contest. Beautiful custom paint, very nice wheels, lot's of extras. The judges spent more time looking at this bike and going over every detail than any other there. It really stood out among the bikes entered.
He lost.
He asked one of the judges afterwards why they spent so much time looking at it and what it would take to win next time. The judge told him he had the best looking bike by far but they just couldn't pick it to win. The reason.......it was a Victory. They wanted an HD to win even though it was open to all bikes.
First rule of bikes shows - If you don't have an in with the organizer, you're not likely to win. But you usually get a cheap tee shirt and a sticker to put on the door of your beer fridge at home.
See this often with both bikes and cars. People rolling in with '09 stock Screamin Eagle's or anniversary bikes, new Dodge Challengers, Corvettes, etc. Then watching them take prizes over older or modified vehicles. My feeling is that if they want to enter in the show to feel good that they have spent a truckload of cash on a new ride, then have a "small johnson" class or something where they can show but not win jack.
Keeping in mind that the purpose of the show / run is to raise money for a cause or club, so turning down a $15 entry fee is probably the last thing on the minds of whoever's putting on the event.
Shows are still fun to look at, but got tired of the "politics" years ago when I used to participate with my '51 Chevy pickup, and gave up on them. I'd rather take my entry money and donate it to some worthwhile group who probably has a table set up at the same event.
Usually see some better rides in the parking lot.
Showing your bike, car, artwork, etc. is supposed to be fun, but when it's obvious to everyone that the winner didn't have any business in the game, it turns everyone off. This type of thing is subjective by nature, so one man's winner isn't going to be everyone's taste, but you should at least be able to see WHY it won.
Contest organizers need to understand that situations like this definitely make one time enterers out of a lot of folks - pretty soon, word gets around and they have no more entries. They are shooting themselves in the foot and will find out the hard way, especially in this crappy economy.
