Default Cigareet Lighter / Power Take-off

Last week I posted a question about using the cigarette lighter as a power take-off for my GPS. I had tried it and it didn't work for the GPS or my phone charger. I thought this was a little strange as many of you said you do just that, and it works fine. So I checked the cigarette lighter itself and it didn't work. So, I checked the fuse. Expecting to see the accessory fuse burnt out, I was surprised to see the fuse labeled P&A was bad. I replaced it and everything works fine now, the lighter and my phone charger. I have looked in the manual and there is nothing that explains what P&A stands for. Can anyone clear this up???

I don't know the direct answer, but I do know my owners manual on my 08 says not to use the lighter for powering anything like phone chargers etc. I don't know why they say this. I have been doing just that with no problems, but again, the manual says not to.

I have a friend with an 07 Ultra and he power's both his XM and I think his GPS from tapping into the wiring of the lighter just inside the fairing. He has had no trouble either.

I know. It makes no sense. If they don't want us using the lighter they should tell us why. Everyone I have spoken to says they do the same thing.

I can't help but wonder if it is not a liability issue, you gotta know some knucklehead would attempt to power a welder from the lighter plug.

Perhaps a rain / moisture issue, as the lighter has a rubber collar to semi seal the outlet when it is in the plug.

I would think that when parked, the power adapter would come in contact with the tank, no?

Default Power Outlet Installation 05 Road King

I just put the Harley Power outlet in my RH side cover. Was as easy as pie. It is switched to the aux power switch and plugs in under the seat.

On My 08 SG the cigarett lighter isn't working I looked for a fuse for it and there isn't one marked Cigareet lighter . I will check the one marked P&A . I don't understand why the owners manual says they don't want you use it as a power source for cell phones ,gps if they have there own inline fuse I can't see a problem.

You can buy a socket that plugs into your battery tender cable for like 15 bucks
