The real problem with that is I live in Alaska, there are many miles between civilization and I want to know the bikes exact limitations.

it was 210 miles on the trip before I filled up. But, I only put 5 gallons in a 6 gallon tank. I could hear and feel a difference in the bike at that point (probably because of low speeds).

Am I not filling it up completely or properly? I don't want to make a mess all over my tank and console while I try to fill it.

I've been asking myself the same question. I have an '09 Ultra and have run the tank down to where I was sure it was running on fumes, but the most gas it's ever taken is just a little over 5 gallons. This is supposed to be a six gallon tank. You'd think it should take 5.8 or more gallons when it's that low.

I've gotten 206 out of a tank ONCE, that's it. Light comes on at about 160 ~ 170 miles. Zumo 450, gas gauge, and miles ridden DO NOT agree. Zumo always says I've ridden less miles that the "A" trip meter does. Also, I agree with the gauge not moving until I have about 90 ~ 100 miles on it. Go figure.

The light on my 07 comes on between 160-170 miles, and if i drive sane on the highway i get 43 mpg. 46 mpg on backroads taking it easy. i have checked it MANY times.

Its not worth what? We just want to know how reliable the gauges are. What the worst that can happen, you run out of gas?

Anyways I got to miles remaining 30 and the light came on which as I read means it has one gallong left. Then going down a straight level road at 40mph I notice the miles remaining falling faster than miles ridden, allot faster. I also notice the engine surging, like a lean surge which I thought was strange if it supposedly had a gallon left. So a couple of miles down the road I pull into the gas station with miles remaining reading 20. But I could only fit 5.06 gallons in the tank. Granted I didn't fill it till it was up the neck but it sure was doing plenty of spitting back for my taste so I stopped filling it up.

Obviously I had less than a half gallon left in the tank, how do I really top the tank off without making a huge mess?

I have an 2008 EG just ran it down to the point the low light was on and the miles to empty was flashing. I put 5.6 gallons in with 252 miles. Seems like the miles started flashing low or something like that at around 11 miles. Can't remember exactly... As for making the mess I agree it's hard not to... I put the nozzle in with the tip facing the 5 or 6 o'clock position and it sticking in the tank about 2 inches. I just just pump it slow and watch for the fuel through the hole in the filler neck. When it pops I pull the nozzle back and click it until it looks about an inch from the filler neck...

I've found that once the pump clicks off I can still get another .3 to .5 in but its really slow. I like to fill it to the very top, but I think the 09's, and probably the 08's to, have baffles in the tank to keep all that gas from sloshing around. It takes me longer to fill the last .3 then it does the first 5 gals. You just have to pump it really slow and let the air bubble out. I.ve thought about taking a ride with a spare gallon and see how far I can go. It would be nice to know how far you can go once the warning light comes on.
