Well, I wanted to know exactly how far the bike could go on a tank of fuel. Mind you it only has 1300 miles on it now and 90% of my riding is highway.
Anyways I got to miles remaining 30 and the light came on which as I read means it has one gallong left. Then going down a straight level road at 40mph I notice the miles remaining falling faster than miles ridden, allot faster. I also notice the engine surging, like a lean surge which I thought was strange if it supposedly had a gallon left. So a couple of miles down the road I pull into the gas station with miles remaining reading 20. But I could only fit 5.06 gallons in the tank. Granted I didn't fill it till it was up the neck but it sure was doing plenty of spitting back for my taste so I stopped filling it up.
Obviously I had less than a half gallon left in the tank, how do I really top the tank off without making a huge mess?
I noticed the same. 13 miles to work, range says 50 miles, counts down until it says "low" by the time I get to a 24hr gas station 1 mile from work. Kinda ruins my ride. Ride it until you run out & then let us know
Simple answer to this problem...When ya get between 1/3 to 1/4 tank. Fill it up! Don't relay on the "idiot" lights or computer to keep ya straight! That's just a recipe for disaster!
I can ride about 20 miles on the light...i have riden 35 only because i had too but because i was in the middle of WV and couldn't find an open station...bad feeling...
It always happens aat the worst time. I had my bike at work and got a call to respond to a chemical emergency in a town about 30 miles away. Light came on after about 5 miles while en route. I made it but what a bad feeling!
Same here. My bike is new (now 2400mi) and my gauge drops like a rock after 1/2 full. Lands on E and when the light goes on, computer says 35 miles left. I ran it down to 10 miles left, gassed up and the bike took only 5 gallons......
I just use the trip meter on my 06 ... I have ridden as far as i thought I could possible go and put 4.5 gallons in the 5 gallon tank .. My gauge takes forever to start down but it still seems pretty consistent with the fuel light and the trip meter.. Most of the time If I know im gonna be near a gas station ill ride till i see 170 to 180 miles on the trip meter.. then I pull in and fill up.. Im usually looking at 170 though but I know I can go to 180 ..

I've notice the same thing on my 09 Ultra, I fill it up and after the first 20 miles the gauge starts falling FAST. I was on "E" the other day but the remaining miles was saying 60, but no light. Gauge doesn't seem too accurate.
