when i was a kid growing up in the early 60's in central texas, i spent the summers @ my uncles moms house playing on the farm and helping shuck corn and pick peas. when we were done we would play like we were riding on my uncles hd that he had bought after coming home from fighting in the pacific as a marine. the old hd had died and was just parked in the barn. rats had eaten the seats and wiring but other than that it was fine. no rust, etc. then in the 70's i got my first honda 100 but met a guy who had a bad *** chopper aka easy rider. the bell went off and i called the farm to check about getting the old hd to build my a chopper. i will never forget how my heart dropped when my uncles mom said a couple of guys showed up and gave her 50 bucks for the old bike. "they must be crazy! i felt bad about taking their money but they insisted". alas, another one that got away. story of my life. oh well. i love my rg.

I just roomed with a guy at Americade last week (Lenny) that won vintage class and best of show with his 1948 Indian, attached is a couple pictures. He and his father restored it and the memories they made together made some awesome stories that I had the pleasure of experiencing. Yeah, I don't think I could have ridden that bike without some practice! The throttle on the left, clutch on left foot, shifter right lever by tank and spark retarder where throttle typically is located. It ran great and the amount of detail and effort to get it restored is amazing but it is a beautiful piece of history and if you do the same very very rewarding! Enjoy your project and good luck.
