I'm 58 with a fused lower back. I have no trouble at all with my Ultra one-up. With anyone larger than my 9 year old granddaughter on the back, I have one heck of a time slow stop and go maneuvering. The next day and my back is hurting.

I'm looking at the Voyager kit that you can add that turns the bike into a trike with a middle rear wheel. Intriguing part is that in about 5 minutes you can remove the rig and be back to two wheel riding. About $4,000 to $5,000 to add it. That would increase the "value" of my ultra to over $32K or just about the price of a real trike. But....I can always go back to two wheeling. Decisions, decisions.

Oh yeah, and the whole reason for this is that I want my wife along and don't want a 4 wheel convertible cage as an option.

I am lucky enough to have a brother with a trike. I get to ride it quite a bit, unfortunately to and from the dealer for repairs. Its a 2008 Fatbob with a lehman kit (solid axle) It has an electric pushbutton pingle shifter to move the shift lever for him as he is in a wheelchair and cannot shift the lever for himself. No problems with the trike or bike itself, just the shifter components.....

I am getting used to the trike, but boy does it take some armstrength/ effort to ride it. Y'know the joy of slowing into a curve and powering out of it, with a simple lean and head turn? Gone with the trike, and replaced with a body lean (which may or may not help, I do it for my mind) and forcing the handle bars (which have a little shimmy shimmy shake) thru the curve. I rode it for 80 miles one day, and straight away is cool, curves are a workout for sure.

A good friend of mine just got his tri glide last week and he is 70 something.. he sold his 09 ultra due to the weight and as stated above the sitting at traffic lights and stop/starting he felt it was too much for him.
Now the tri glide he loves but we talked yesterday about it and he did say the upper body gets a good workout due to the fact it is all arms and chest to steer it. no lean all push/pull steering.

A riding buddy of mine is 76 and he went down last year on his Road King. He was banged up pretty good and had road rash but was not seriously hurt. After about 3 months recovery he bought a Goldwing Trike (Road King was totaled). He really likes it and it keeps him in the wind. I personally like the side car look and have always wondered how they handle compared to a trike.

If you go to Sturgis you can test ride trikes at the Lehman's factory in Spearfish. Pretty fun. I road bitch behind my daughter. She says it is definitely different than riding on 2 wheels.

That had to be a different perspective, for "both of you!"

I'd say that would be a given!

Actually, we have a ride planned that will take us to Sturgis and Spearfish BUT it lands us there about July 15/18 and they do NOT have tours Except during the ralley ?? Go figure - I am thinking of putting down 35K and they won't allow a tour...

I will check on the test rids.. would like to ride again...

I'm 60 and I also have been looking at the Tri-Glide, but I agree 30+ is too much. I have a 09 Street Glide and it's the perfect size and weight. I'm 5'6 and I love my SG.

Might do the Trike thing one day but not today .. As long as can hold up 2 wheels safely and comfortably will be the way I go .. Be 60 in October hoping for at least 10 more years of 2 wheels..

Check the original HD website. They should be able to provide you with a dealer that rents them. Good Luck
