Default Power Commander / Mapping Questions

OK people - I have a 2004 EG that I put Rhineharts true duals on back in Late 04 - at that time I also installed a Power commander III USB and had it dyno tuned. Fast forward to today - Needed a change in life - want to install the Vance & Hines 2/1 Pro Pipe HSs / Chrome... I have called Dyno Jet / Power Commander - they gave me two different 'Maps" to use

M807-028 Vance & Hines 2:1 Pro Pipe , Stage 1 ECM and Screamin Eagle air filter

M807-027 Vance & Hines 2:1 Pro Pipe, Stock ECM and Screamin Eagle air filter

Dyno also said a custom map could be made..

I called the local HD and another shop on the Dyno Jet web site

Both quoted $375 to do a custom map for both cyls and $275 to map each cyl the same WTF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, for all you 'shade tree mech's' out there - how good are the 'maps' like above??? I can get my way through a computer somewhat, and I feel that I could most likley do a down load - anyone here done this????

Or has anyone put on the

Vance & Hines Pro HS 17533

the dyno tuned map will almost always be better than the canned map due to it running optimal AFR's for your specific bike. make sure you save the map you have now just in case no matter what you do.

Thanks - but at another $375 - I am NOT looking to run the 1/4 mile... just ride - all I have done to this bike is do the A/C = stage 1 - NO engine work

you will probably be fine with a canned map then. i would say use the map for a stock ecm, as the map for the stage 1 ecm download wont make quite as much change.

On your computer open both 27 & 28 and compare the tables. They could the same... seen it before. Load one in the PCIII & run it w/ fresh plugs & then do a plug check.

Or, ... You can back load the map thats in your PCIII from the bike to your computer then compare it to either 27 or 28 and see what the changes are. Often the changes are in certain throttle positions/ rpms say 20-60% throttle at 2500-4000 rpm. Make a custom map based on either whats in your bike or the map you chose & rename it then work off that. Could put you real close to where maybe only a dyno could tell the difference.
