Default Finally .... Hard starting fixed

My '07 Ultra had been plagued by hard and embarrassing starting issues when hot for about a year or so. After the motor was warm it would try to kick over then grind clunk and fart smoke out of the intake. Per the MoCo, my dealer cleaned out the excess powder coating between the starter and case, then I added a grounding strap, re-tuned the starting program, changed the wiring to the starter and changed the battery. Nothing even made a slight difference. Finally the MoCo told the dealer to check the compensator sprocket for excessive wear and runout. They put in a new style CVO sprocket and replaced the primary chain tensioner as it was torn up pretty bad. They will even covered a new starter under the extended warranty. The starter is not in yet but the compensator was the problem.
Now it works like a charm! It runs much smoother too. So if anybody is having similar problems with hot starting, give this a try.

Hey Ultra007 - do you have a part number for the CVO sprocket? I've had this same starting problem with my '07 Ultra 103 Stage II from day one, also. Appreciate the information - Ted.

Teach me something here please. Have heard of this compensator as what makes the loud noise when starting, weel, where is this located and what does it do. Thanks.

In the attached pic, it is the sprocket on the left. Located in the primary. It' purpose is to absorb the pulses of the drivetrain
