I have to agree with the HD pump. It's made well and has an anti-leak system so you lose no air when disconnecting. That's important when you're talking about 1 or 2# of air. Got mine for about $25 on eBay.

I had one before I got the HD one and it would leak air when you removed it from the valve. I finally bought the HD one for $35 and it works great.

I just used a $2.99 basketball pump. It worked, but you had to guess on the pressure. Use the HD pump now. Worth the money. Period.

Bought one on EBAY for $20 shipped. Also got two with my Fox float shocks on two of my sleds. They are exactly the same pump made in some foreign country with a different sticker on them. Only difference is the Fox pumps cost $1100 and came with some shocks.

Yes, You need 'em if you got a touring bike no matter what the cost you spend. Just bite your tongue and keep your wifey happy.

Fought with a hand pump for several months, finally spent the money and got the HD pump, it was worth the money...very good pump.

Mountain bikes use fairly sophisticated air shocks now and any (mountain) bike shop will have shock pumps available with attached guage. Try to get one with a scale that reads 0 - 125psi rather than one that reads 0 - 300psi.

After that - I run 35 psi in my Street Glide shocks. I don't know where HD gets the 17 - 20 psi recommendation.
