im always 2 up so 6th doesnt come on till around 70. the 09's are geared lower they turn more rpm at the same speed as the 07 08. yes a stg1 will let u run in lower rpm.and i have run over 3000 rpm for about a 5 hour run on the slab with no problems at all so dont be in a hurry to find 6 th.

My bike likes 2800-3000 RPM...usually go to 6th around 70.....learn to 'feel' the bike and you wont need a speedo or tach...:>)

If you ride long enough you will learn to listen to your bike and it will let you know when you need to be in another gear. My bike is talking all the time, sort of like my OL.
What a contradiction!!!...your bike dosnt lug at 60 mph in 6th gear yet you ride 70-80 mph in 5th and it isnt over revved?....YOU need to tell the OL to shut the hell up and listen to your bike..obviously you aint!!!

6th gear. 3000 rpm. 85mph. Give or take. But... I live in Montana and life is good. Bike just likes 3000 rpm. Bone stock with the exception of S&S SPO's. It will run all day long at that rate and never misses a beat. It only gets better when some Canuck goes flyin' by me. I give 'em about a quarter of a mile lead and then bump it up. Gotta luv them Canucks, they just let it sail. Not that long ago, one passed me like I was standing still. I thought my brakes were dragging. I never tried to keep up. But the Highway patrol did. I honked and waved as I went by. You guessed it. 3000rpm in 6th. Laughing all the way.

So with all that being said the bike has the 6 speed Cruise drive, now my question is I have been running the bike up to 65 in 5th then switching to 6 at around 65-70, with the Virginia Police I am safe at 65 so that is usually where I cruise at so is 65 to low a speed for 6th? The bike does not feel like it is lugging but just wanted to find out where others are running 6th gear at as far as speed. Thank for the time!!
You should also take into account that by popular concensus the speedometers on our Harleys tend to read about 3mph faster than what the acutual speed is. Judging from a GPS system mounted on any said bike. Seems like the faster the speed the more discripency between the GPS and speedometer. 3mph seems to be the norm. So, if your speedo says 65 you could be going 62. And, that would be lugging in 6th gear. Just saying.
