I've seen some impressive 103" SE-255 dyno sheets. If you want to stay 96" and HD, try the SE-204. If not, check out HeadQuarters, Woods, and Andrews. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those manufactures. It's just a matter of how much $$$ you want to spend.
I just put in a SE211 on a stock 96 with riney slipons and stage 1 filter 4 days ago and all I can say is ....
HELL YEA.
This is the way the bike should have come from the factory. The bike is running freely now and is really coming out of its shell everytime I accept the trims on my PC AT.
Thanks Donnylee for the push in the 211 direction!
Go back to my previous replies on this thread for a description and a link to my cam-change write-up. It has been a very favorable outcome for me given my riding style. If you want excellent low-end and midrange power in a stock TC96 engine but rarely venture beyond 4500 rpm's, you may find the SE255's to be exactly what the doctor ordered. I'm very happy with them.
Be advised that these often show up on Ebay, both new and used, and a good low-mileage used set should not be overlooked, as they are often a real bargain. Mine were used and perfect, and I bought them for $110 shipped from a forum member.
Nitram, a couple of points. The SE 255 cams are a .550 lift which doesn't require different valve springs or rocker arms. So, any lift cam not in excess of that should be fine from a valvetrain standpoint.
The change in cams (aftermarket or HD) doesn't "void" the MOCO two-year warranty. It simply means if the cams cause a problem requiring repair, the repair is not covered by the warranty. And, the dealer must prove that the cams caused the problem.
Your '09 has lower gearing than the '07 and '08 model year 96"/six-speed Touring models. This means that whatever torque is available in the engine is multiplied faster than the earlier model bikes. Based on your riding style, the earlier torque available from the SE 255 cams may be useful or not because of your bike's lower gearing.
90 days after delivery, there is no HD cam/kit that I know of that will be warrantyed by MOCO, at least in anything HD publishes in their SE Parts book or website, though dealerships typically will stand behind there work; but that's the dealership, not MOCO.
Last point is simply that whatever engine mods you do, they are heavily dependent on the quality of tuning you get after installation.
