I looked and looked for a seat for my wife. Found this one a few weeks ago. This seat is simply awesome. She is 5'5 on an unlowered 09 SG. For her, this seat is perfect. She took it out on a 250 mile ride last weekend and had nothing but praise for it.
It was 250.00 delivered and it came with some cool flames stiched in it, bought from american classic motors on ebay.
I lowered my 09 FLTR, for looks, and used Progressive both front and back. I actually switched from air shocks in the rear to fluid and it rides a lot better! Overall it still rides better than my 07 FLTR, even with everything I did to hurt the handling. I would also recommend looking into the RaceTech Gold Valve lowering kit for the front. I would have run that if there was one available at the time I purchased everything.
Don't forget to do the Front while you are at it, since they have to take the forks apart to lower them tell him you want the Chrome fork Lowers ;-) Happy Birthday.
My wife is 5'7".. She went with the 09 close solo from Corbin which they did a "nose job" on and I installed Harley's reach handlebars.. Finally a happy gal as she went from an 03 Fatboy that I made fit her to this 09 FLHX.. Good luck, it can be done.
I bet the first 1k on the road king felt different too. And after 50k it's no wonder you miss the old ride. You just need to make your new bike your own bike. Change seat, bars, foot position, suspension to what fits your body and I bet you will be more than happy with your choice. You could also check out bitchinbaggers.com for their stock shock drop adjustment. From what I read on this fourm it sounds like it works real well.
+1 ditto for the above, call Allen and tell him the issues you have.
Agree, Allen works magic. Fixed my seat and I can out distance all of my riding buddies.
Now all I need is a bigger gas tank and bladder.
One I can buy, the other...ah well, $u{k$ to get old...
My girl put a Corbin close solo and backrest on her bike. Moves you forward a few inches and lower. She can go much longer than I can and loves the combo. I have a Corbin solo, which lowers you a little, but not forward at all - but mine is like a brick even after 10K .... still waiting for by butt to break in, I guess. Like was said earlier, every tush is different, but the forward and lower positioning with the close solo is guaranteed. Can't address the other seats mentioned.
