Default Grooved Pavement

Hey guys, 21 here, never ridden on the grooved pavement much on my crotch rocket....old man and I planning a trip and a guy we work with just came home and rode from Mich (where i live) to Cali and back and he says he rode about 1000 miles of the stuff...I hate it, rode like 5 miles on it and almost **** my pants....

what are the tricks? everyone says loosen up the grip and go with the grooves but man i have a hard time doing that....

anyone ever wiped out or anything? I have been riding since I was 16 on crotch rockets, light bikes only 360Lbs, my SG is 760 so i am nervous about dumping the big sucker...

wrecked crotch rocket on gravel, dad thinks thats why i am nervous about the grooved stuff...

any help would be appreciated

i believe some times the operater of the thing that eats the pavement has gotta be drunk or just likes to screw with bikes.. when the groves run like a snake, it's a mf to ride.. when they run straight, its no problem JMO

Loosen up like everyone says and change your tires. Tire tread has a lot to do with how much your bike is affected.

Notice a big improvement in handling with my 09 under these road conditions. Not sure if it's the wider tire on rear or the tires. I guess most feel it is the new tire.

My 08 was sacry as hell too. It's either the tires or you need a bagger brace. My 09 is rock solid.

FYI: don't ever cross a bridge where you can see through it. I remeber back in day (late 70's or so) I almost sh$t my pants.

If you mean grooves as in rain grooves cut in flat finished concrete, you probably won't even notice them even with the stock Dunlops. If you mean roto-milled torn up asphalt where its rougher than a cob and waiting to be re surfaced it is a little scary. I run Metzler ME880s and they are a vast improvement on this type of surface. The faster you ride on this stuff the straighter you seem to track. Remember you have two big gyros spinning (your wheels) holding you up. You won't go down as long as you don't hit something or **** the front wheel. I don't think a bagger brace will do anything but separate you from your cash.

Look straight ahead - let the bike wiggle under you. Grated bridges will usually be worse. Get some tires with a different tread pattern - Metzlers and E3s are great.
