Well.. I have Progressive insurance which gives me roadside assistance....
I am a HOG member....the reason I joined was because in orger for me to join my local hog chapter...I had to be a national member first...
I have alot of friends who ride...but they do not want to take long trips....
I just got an 06 Ultra and want to start her up...point her in a direction and GO!!!
My local HOG chapter has alot of rides scheduled all the time! and alot of weekend trips
I could justify my national and local HOG membership based on the discounts my dealer offers. And, I could rationalize the natonal HOG dues based on the $50 refund of my $60 cost of taking the MSF ERC class each year with my local chapter which gets a discount from the $100 normally charged for the course.
My local chapter is a good one; meaning that through participating in chapter rides and events, I've met a lot of good people that have become friends over the past 4 years since I bought my first Harley. Like most things in life, you get out of it what you put in. And if you think you will like everyone you meet, you haven't met enough people. And if you think everyone will like you, you haven't met enough people.
Why did I join the national “Hog”? I had to, to join my local Hog chapter.
I was new to this area, so I joined (the local Hog Chapter) so I would meet some people to ride with. They have a few rides “Dinner Rides” during the week, a few rides on Saturdays and a couple of overnighters a year. They also have a “Chili Cookoff” in the spring and a “Bar-B-Q Cookoff” in the fall….and of course the “Toy Run” before Christmas……and some other stuff.
Every organization I have ever belonged to, I ended up being talked into serving in all the positions and end up as the president. I said to myself “never again”. I will help out, but I’m not going to be in any office. I just want to ride and have some riding buddies.
I have met and befriended enough people so we almost always do a Sunday ride (non-chapter event).
My only problem is I think I joined a “drinking club” that rides motorcycles, not a “Motorcycle club” that likes a beer or two. We don’t go anywhere unless it ends up at a bar somewhere. Our monthly “Hog Meeting” is in a bar. Our during the week “Dinner Rides” only go where they can have a beer too. Our dealership dropped having our “Hot Harley Nites” at his dealership because they had to have a free keg of beer and he didn’t want the liability.
Now I’m not against drinking. Don’t get me wrong. I like beer on a hot day and whiskey is my usual drink. But “I DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE”. I’ll drink when I get home. Almost all the funny stories people tell, is about how drunk somebody was and dumped their bike in the parking lot.
I guess I’m ranting, but I just want to ride. Ride with some friends and go somewhere. It doesn’t matter where we go, it’s like they say “It’s the journey, not the destination”.
My membership jsut expired. I never joined a chapter. But there were 2 times with my old bike ( both times were flat tires) had to be towed. When it happened locally I had to wait overnight for the tow. That was a pain getting a ride twice. The second time I was an hour from home. Tow showed up in 45 min. That little piece of mind was nice.
yea i got aaa rv plus .you get 100 miles tow..sort of seem a rip off .either get your big Rv towed or your little old bike for the same amount.Something just dont seem right about it.
Well i'm 3.5 hours away from my "local" chapter, so forget the rides. Mine are just as nice anyways. As for the coverage, Goodsam offers $79 which covers me, the wife and all our other vehicles ( unlimited mileage ). How much does AAA, or CAA charge you for that ( my guess is $200+ )
Ya the mag is pretty cool, but since we bought the wifes bike in January. I will still get the mag for a while.
