Default Cheezed off...

I've been trying to get my SG on the road for a month now, but no time to work on it. (bunch of small projects on the bike). So last night...almost done, mount the front fender, wheel and basically done......except..... I broke a friggin bolt off trying to mount the fender. I had my lowers chromed, and I guess this one whole still had some chrome or something in it, the other 3 went OK. Now I don't know what the heck to do.
I'm scared to try drilling it and extracting it for fear of screwing it up even more. That sucker is tight for some reason. There is a bit of bolt sticking out, so that's good, I think I'm going to pull the fork off and bring it to a shop.
Any Ideas?

Use an easy out. Drill small pilot hole and put in easy out. It is reversed thread so put your drill in reverse and it will bite in and then pull it out.

My mistake.

The easy out method should work. Get some PB blaster and let it soak in there for an hour or so. Wih that easy out be very very gentle it is EXTREMLY hard steel and will snap and scratch your bike faster than you can think. If you can get the bolt to spin you need to loosen than tighten than loosen it alot.... Or the before mention snapping will happen. I have had it happen to me several times. Also start with the smallest easy out you can so you still will have option. Center punch it before you drill to insure a good set for your drill bit. YOU MUST USE A SHARP DRILL BIT!! that part is also very important.

I'm scared to try the easy out for fear of breaking the thing, and then your really screwed, but I guess I don't have a lot of options. I just was so frustrated with the thing, I didn't feel like dealing with it any more.

Hit it with a hammer, curse at it, then try again. Works for me.

Unless you have done the easy-out before, this would NOT be a good place to learn. Take the whole bike to a machine shop and let them at least look at it. They can most likely do it with the fork on the bike. If not, you can always take it off. I have done many easy out projects, but sometimes I will still take a job to the machine shop for the PROS to fix !

It aint gonna be easy on the bike.. just pull it and take in to a shop .. they will fix it but at today's prices it aint gonna be cheap.. you really should have run a tap in all the holes before mounting .. makes life a lot easier..
