I am 5'11", 195# and have a Harley Overpass rain jacket and pants, size Large. Jacket is made for motorcycle riding and is heavy enough that it does not flap in the wind even if I only have a tee shirt and jeans on under it. It also fits very well over my leather jacket and chaps.
Do not waste your money buying a rain suit not specifically made for riding. Been there, done that. Harley gear is considered expensive by some but their gear is for riding and I have never been disappointed with any of my Harley purchases going back to the 1970s.
The Overpass has kept me dry on very long multi-day runs in very heavy rain. It is not the most expensive but has served me well.
Too many folks try the rain suit on over just jeans and a t-shirt. Then when they get caught in a cold down pour, the rain suit is too tight to fit comfortably over the jacket and chaps.
Bingo - The wife and rode for five hours yesterday in on and off rain storms. We both tried on our suits with leather jackets on too. When it came time to suit up they went on fast and easy. Which is what you need when you say, "Ah $#!+, the rain isn't going to stop..."
The hardest part for me was the price(guess I'm a little scroogish).Listen to what everyone says about the fit. The harley gear is expensive but Hey,,, IT WORKS. I have used it in several Louisiana thunderstorms and I stay dry. I use the Harley 98275-08VM. I like the bright orange. I want to be seen by all the cagers out there in the rain.
I think you may have just saved me $100, keep you pretty dry?
Dry as anything else keeps ya...heats up pretty quick when stopped in hot weather..and,I dont ride 80 mph in the rain...buy what you want...the cheap azzed rain suits have always been good enough for me...I also carry a poncho...5 bucks at the Army Surplus Store...rain gets too hard,I pull over ,put the poncho un and wait for it to slacken...not much of an option on a long trip though....
I have a pretty decent HD rainsuit, but I find it still wants to 'balloon' up, at speed. I just wrap my conceal carry belly band around the waist and it stops the ballooning and keeps me dry, even in a downpour. A couple of bungee cords will do the trick too.
When it comes to rainsuits, you really do get what ya pay for.
