The wife and I just did a little ride this past weekend. 750+ miles down into SC then back into the NC Mountains and parkway. This was our first trip with the new 103 build and the bike performed AWESOME! My only issue with the bike is the exhaust is just too damn loud now. I have the Rinehart trueduels on and before the build it had a nice deep mellow tone but man she is just too loud. I have thought about going back to stock head pipes and installing the SE slip ons but if I am going to change exhaust I thought I might as well look into the 2 - 1 exhaust to put me into the 100 HP club and tone her down at the same time. So with that being said what should I be looking at for a more mellow exhaust?
I must be getting old because I only had one bike I thought was too loud before and it had straight pipes.
I would say maybe the D&D Fatcat. Give a few more days and I can tell you how it sounds with a bigger motor. I have both the quiet baffle and the reuglar. The regular is on the bike now, and I should have it back on Friday with the new motor. I 2 have seen the motor changes and how the TD can get louder too. With the 88 the D&D w/quiet baffle was to quiet, and went to the regular, will let you know how it sounds with the new motor hopefully on Friday.
I had the same thing happen to me...........had Rineharts on my bike. Before my motor work they were great, perfect sound. After the motor work they were way too loud and I couldn't ride without getting a headache.
After a few 2-1 systems, I finally found the best one out there.........D&D Fatcat 2-1 with quiet baffle. It's a deep rumble that is not overly loud on the highway, but it will bark when you twist the wick. Great fit-n-finish, top quality chrome, and very well known to be a top performer.
Thanks guys. The search has begun for a good deal on the D&D, hopefully I can sell the Rineharts and get a little money back, then I have to put her on the dyno again but as long as she is quiter I'll be happy.
Allen, I feel your pain. I have 2 to 1 Thunderheader on my 98", and its way too load. (must be getting old also) Unfortunatery for me there's no baffles to change. I'm going back to stock pipes. I know I will lose some power and tq, but it will be a lot quiter. It will be a little loader than stock because of the build.
