Correct me if I am mistaken, but didn't the Shovelhead share the engine oil with the primary at one time?
Yes like the sportys too... They had that little ball that kept oil from filling it up....
I just helped a buddy re-seat that ball on his 73 sporty. New pistons, and valves are cut too... Should last another 300 - 10,000 miles before most of the oil goes back into the primary and blows it up again....
Iceman,
Currently the fluid change intervals are 5k motor oil, 10k primary, and 20k trans.
Good information. The stealer told me that everything was changed with every fluid change. Still don't have my service manual but will have to revisit the owners. Really wanting the fix my hog DVD's.
20K on the tranny and the fluid is clean...10k on pimary and fluid is clean...5k on crank and fluid is nasty...even full syn in crank needs to be changed... I ride my bike very hard in the mountains and the motor oil gets nasty dirty but the tranny and primary stayed clear....I don't want that nasty oil going in my clutch and don't want the clutch material going in my engine...I think it's the best way to seperate....When i rode a Metric i changed the oil every 2500 miles....Didn'r use SYn then...
Because it was designed by Americans not some copycat furrin dinks, that's why. Get yourself a furrin cycle if you don't like Harleys. You apparently don't know much history or try to look into something so I don't think you need a serious answer. Kindergarten is down the street from your house.
