Default Voltage Gauge

I was out riding my 2006 Street Glide last night and noticed for the first time my voltage gauge needle was pegged all the way over to the right. What would cause this? I am getting to go on a rode trip and don't want to be worried about a break down. This is the first time I have noticed it that far over. It is usually in the middle.

Mine died and was replaced...fairly common issue.

I just went out to the garage and flipped the ignition switch on and it jumped right up to normal where it is suppose to be. I am not sure it is the gauge. It is never that simple.

Sounds like a bad voltage regulator.Check voltage @ batt with engine running @ 2000 rpm if voltage is over 14.2 replace reg.

What other symptoms would I see if it was the voltage regulator? What would make one go bad? The bike seems to be running great - no dim lights or erratic tach readings. Sorry just don't like the R&R strategy, Espcially on a VR that is $200.00

OK, checked the voltage @ the battery with the bike running @ a constant 2,000 rpm's and got 14.39 volts. Which I think should be OK (the calibration of the voltmeter could be off by .19 volts). Any comments? should I be worried?
