Hawg_Wired install kit and a cheap car stereo with 2 speakers... about 250 dollars

HD oil pressure gauge in the right hole, threw out the air temp guage that came in the kit and bought an oil temp gauge aftremarket

I like the Idea of the factory stereo head unit, with either the factory speakers and stuff, or maybe aftermarket.

I'm keeping my options open, and the standard can be had for a REALLY good deal right now. But it's not gonna be worth it, if the stereo cost and gauges are gonna make it the same cost as a Street Glide or a Classic.

Thanks again,

~Joe

You're right about the Standard being a great deal!!! Best buy for the money...I think. When I bought the Standard in '07 I didnt want a chrome engine (Im not really a fan of chrome), a Tour Pak, or a stereo. I had a backrest/luggage rack put on it, added the SE Air Filter and SE Slip-ons. Saddlebags held most anything I wanted to carry...if not, I'd just strap a bag on the luggage rack or the seat. I just wanted to RIDE!!! I had an accident, and thru the repair (insurance + $25 outta my pocket), I added a chrome engine kit. I also added the HD oil pressure and oil temp. gauges.

Then.....came a girlfriend. She LOVES those evening rides....making those overnight trips. I added a Mustang Ultra-Tour seat for our comfort.

THEN....I started to notice how those with a Tour Pak didnt have to 'juggle' things around @ the store; they could lock their helmets inside if they stopped @ a resturant. I also noticed the fact the Tour Pak lights made ya WAY MORE VISIBLE from the rear.... ect, ect, ect! I added a King Tour Pak, with lights, spoiler, chrome rack, and chrome light 'guard'. I added chrome saddlebag guards too. I added the Biketronics radio kit....ordered my Hogtune speakers/tweeter kit directly from Pez. Next thing ya know I have an intercom so we can communicate! Heck Ive even added Sirius radio...lol. Now, Im about to order the rear speakers....also considering fairing lowers for wind protection (lol....mostly the fairing lower amp/speaker kit)

Hindsight (and several $1000 into it)....I'd been money ahead to have bought a Classic, or even the Ultra. After reading replys on this forum, (at the least) I'd probably made the speaker upgrade. Do I regret it.....NOT ONE BIT!!!! It's been an experience...for sure. Am I thru adding? I doubt it...lol (Im beginning to like "CHROME"....on a Harley). As my signature says..."Ive done it MY WAY!!!"

A few things more for you to consider......

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Billy G

PS...GF is hinting at a Tri-Glide....lol

Prime example about what i'm talkin about. alot of times people say," I don't want a stero or I like the non crome engine", but if they had the money they would have it.
I did not know how much I liked hearing tunes, until I got my ultra and listen to the music I like on my bike.

No matter what you put on a standard, when you trade it in, you will not get paid for all the stuff you put on the bike.

If you want to build up the bike standard is a great bike but some times for a few grand more you can get a classic with more chrome bells and whistles and its worth it just depends what you want to do some guys even find smokin deals on a classic than strip some pieces off sell them and make even more money back everyone has a different way but I know one thing if its just a simple stereo and 2 gauges holding you back i wouldnt worry about get it save that extra cash than enjoy doing some work to it and making it your own personalizing it the way you want too.

Bought the HK radio, and the two extra guages just to fill the blank holes.

I bought the Standard knowing I was going to get a stereo for it. I went with Biketronics. I got a Sony head unit with USB port. I threw several hundred songs on an 8 gig jump drive and play my music through that. No need for Ipod and doesnt need to be charged. I didn't get the amp but will upgrade when I find the right deal.

I am in the process of doing just what you are after. I bought the Biketronics adapter kit from Dennis Kirk for $189.99 shipped. I bought a Sony stereo and some Orion speakers for $114 shipped from eBay. I bought the gauge kit from eBay for about $95 shipped. So for around $400 total, I will have the tunes and gauges that the standard is missing, all new parts also. Half is coming in today and half will be here tomorrow, so I will let you know how it goes. I also ordered the 10" medium tint Fastaire windshield, which came in yesterday. Love that thing!!

EDIT :: Just for information purposes. If you go the route that I am going, you have to make sure that the Sony radio you choose has the jack for a wired remote. That's what makes your handlebar controls work. They do have a new kit, for $20 more, that is suppose to work with all stereo brands. You still have to find one with the wired remote jack though.
