Get over pissing off the neighbors. Good fences make good neighbors anyway.

With any engine you want to move the power band into the area where you use it. True duals are for wide open running, not beating around the neighborhood and city driving much. The factory header is state of the art as far as exhaust systems and there are great slip ons by V&H and other makers that will give you a lot of usable throttle with a 96, 103, or 88, too.

I have 109 tq at 2500 rpms. My clutch is only rated for 110 tq. I guess if I ever want to switch to a 2:1 exhaust, I will have to beef up the clutch for all the extra tq I will pick up.

Compression and cams will determine how loud any exhaust is more than anything else. My Bassani Road Rage (on a 96") was quieter than my Dad's Rhinehart TD's (on an 88") before I did my engine build.

If you're 103 build is of mild compression and cam profile, a 2-1 like the Fatcat with a quiet baffle may in fact be quiter than your Rhineharts.

timvan - I'm assuming your comment about the TBW robbing power is due to the out of box "lag" the MoCo sets them with. The TTS can adjust the TBW "lag". Ask your tuner about it or check your manual. I forget the name the TTS software calls it, but you can basically re-program it to act like a cable.

I found that my bike ran way better with a Fat Cat with quiet baffle than my RineHart TD's did and the bike is quieter.
I also added a HQ500 cam this last winter and my bike runs so well now I don't think I'm going to do a 103 kit, it hits 75MPH so easy, it's not even working.

Big negative sir.

All the TBW bikes are producing lower numbers. MY bike is set maxed across the throttle plate with the tts, that has nothing to do with it. No one has a fix as of yet. Doc down in Florida will not even do and 08-09 hipo builds on TBW as the numbers are very dissapointing. ASk some reputable builders about it, they will all tell you the same....TBW bikes are not making the power.

Ok, I see where you're going now. IMO, I don't think it's as much a TBW issue as it is the '07 up drivetrain. The extra tranny gear and the new style primary tensioner are known power robbers. Once the TBW lag is corrected, as you have done, I think a TBW bike will make equivalent numbers as a '07 cable equipped bike. I would suspect both would produce less power than an 88" bike stroked to a 103".

The other issue I know of on the 96" motors is poor squish. Some companies are correcting for this in piston design (my Head Quarters build did), but I don't believe SE parts are. Could be wrong. No doubt Doc would correct it, so I don't think that is as big an issue as the other two.

Sorry for the temporary hi-jack.

the cop bikes come as a 103, and they run just fine. and they're running stock type mufflers. just a thought.

Yes the extra shaft in the tranny has been brought up but is not believed to be the sole issue at hand
