I purchased a BikerBuddy headlight modulator and installed it on my 07 EG. It worked fine during the day, but when it became dark at which time it should stop the modulation it would still make my headlight flash from time to time as if it had a short. After a week I removed it and purchased a Kisan Pathblazer and installed it. The quailty was much better and it works perfect. I also purchased the TailBlazer as a combo package at a discount and I'm well pleased with it as well. For me although the Pathblazer is almost double the price of the BikerBuddy unit the Pathblazer is by far the best modulator.
wasted my money on modulator. drivers here in Bama still pull out in front of ya. got me a ticket in Tennessee. trooper had not seen modulators before so he noticed me and checked my speed. if i didn't have the modulator he wouldn't have even noticed me he said. really nice guy, liked my cop bike, wrote me up for 64 in a 55 not the 70 he clocked me at.
No hard evidence about its effectiveness but I have not had anyone pull out in front of me since I installed it. I have also noticed cagers looking a little more AT me as opposed to past me when they are waiting to turn or pull out of a side street.
Thanks for you experience. I am yet to ry a modulator as I feel that people are still going to cut me off as well, but I am always interested in anything that will potentially make me safer while on the road.
I've used Headlight Modulators for the past two years, I use them whenever I approach potential dangerous intersections are passing on the interstate. I guess it gives me an edge when it comes to visibility, had one car pull over thinking I was a LEO. I don't see any negative reasons for not installing them.
not too long ago, while driving my cage, i came to a stop sign and looked both ways. didn't see anything coming (just some vehicles with lights on some distance away). I started to turn and looked to the left again and a motorcycle was quickly approaching me, thus i had to stop. with only one headlight on the MC, apparently caused me to misjudge his distance from me, and i originally didn't notice him coming at me. sometime later I was riding the bike and noticed some flashing lights ahead of me. it caught my attention as i approached it and it was a bike with a headlight modulator. I put one on both of my bikes, since it clearly does provide a method of getting the cagers attention. will it get the attention of every cager (talking on cell phones, drugged, etc.) probably not, but it will get the attention of many more than by just having a headlight on. IMHO I'm a believer in them and have noticed a marked increase in the cagers awareness.
I installed one from Comaginatio a couple of months ago along with a SilverStar headlight bulb. Love the combo, the guys I bike with tell me the thing really gets their attention. However the big dog I hit last month didn't seem to notice the flashing light, he just kept coming out onto the road.
For me although the Pathblazer is almost double the price of the BikerBuddy unit the Pathblazer is by far the best modulator.
I bought a Kisan for my old RK in 2002 (I think) and it is still working in my '07 SG. I had to replace the sensor connector, replacing it with a four-wire connector for a computer sound-card and cutting off the fourth-wire portion, but that's the only problem I've had with it. This was caused by repeated removal from the headlight and the thin wire eventually broke at the connector.
In the past it would occasionally skip sensitivity modes after starting the bike, which Kisan told me was caused by the voltage drop from the starter, but this has not happened in probably a year. Mine is an old model with only three modes--low and high sensitivity and off--but the newer models have more options.
Since installing it I have had no cagers pull out in front of me (knock on wood), but I always assume they will and don't take anything for granted.
While riding this past weekend I had one cager almost pull out in front of me, at the last moment he saw me and stopped. I don't see how one could say a situation like this could prove that a modulator is of no use. I see it like this, maybe the modulating light caught his eye at the last moment preventing what may have been a serious accident.
