I have wanted an SG since they came out but told myself that a Classic or Ultra made more sense financially. I bought a 2007 Classic and really enjoyed it. This time I bought a 2009 SG and installed lowers. I like it even more. I also bought a Tour Pak and a new seat. Yeah, it cost me more than a new Ultra, but I have the bike I wanted. I rarely use the Tour Pak, but it's handy for long trips. I'll stick with the coolness factor of the Street Glide thanks.
If low speed handling and highway stability are considerations, try the Road Glide before you go with one of the batwing models. The sharknose faring mounted to the frame on the Roadie is superior, from a handling standpoint, to the batwing faring mounted on the forks. My wife and I ride together frequently and she says she has never been more comfortable on a bike and from where I sit, it is the best handling touring bike I've ever ridden.
I am 44 and trying to sell my 04' RK for a Ultra! Rode one in Vegas last month and the wife and I loved it, When I get one I plan removing a few things but to me the Ultra is the chit!

Before going with the Road Glide I thought I wanted an Ultra. I loved the look but couldn't get used to the fairing being so close. I always felt cramped. Also, my wife didn't like the hard bag crash bars, they hit the calves of her legs. After riding several I tested the Road Glide and it fit much better. I bought one a few days later and have loved it ever since. So, to each his own. That's why they make different styles.
Thanks all, I was at drill so took awhile to get back. I will be interested to see what he comes up with. Waiting for my seat to come back to see if the bike will fit him then.
My wife was not happy when I sold my customized Road King and bought an Ultra. Now she loves the Ultra and doesn't regret me selling the cool factor bike. Street Glides are definitely cool but you have to dump a fair amount of money into them to make 'em that cool. The Ultra comes with a lot of good stuff in stock condition. I just don't see it as an old man's bike. I do see it as a comfortable man with happy passenger bike. I also think it's pretty cool.
okay my opinion. i have an 08 streetglide. and it rocks. i did change out the useless short windscreen for a taller, electraglide windshield, as the seat i changed my sg seat out for an 09 roadglide seat. but i'm tall. not a problem there. but the ultra classic is referred to as the "geezer glide", and the streetglide is considered the cool version of the electraglide. i like mine, although will swap out the shocks for factory electra glide shocks when i get serious about riding again. heart attacks slow a guy down, ya know?
