08 UC came with security, and I added (thanks to the forum input!) a $6 Radio Shack siren. Took 10 minutes and will scare the bee-JEZUSS out of you when it goes off.
I have the standard alarm and was thinking about adding the alarm. If you do not mind I have a few questions.
1. Does the alarm have to chirp and make a noise every time you walk up to or away from your bike? That could get annoying fast. It would be great if it only made a sound when a unauthorized user tried to move it.
2. How easy is it to install the siren? Does the service manual detail this?
3. HD siren vs. Radio Shack or the like. Is it any easier with one vs the other? Obviously the cost difference.

I can only speak to the HD siren ...
1. It only chirps when activating, or de-activating, or when the alarm is engaged.
2. It was extremely easy to install. Plug and play for my 07. There's a plug on the alarms ready for adding the siren. Remove the main fuse, remove the alarm module (2 bolts), remove the boot from the siren plug, bolts back on and you're good to go.
3. The RS siren requires you to splice it - if I'm not mistaken. Not a big deal from what I've read. I just didn't want to jack with doing that. Happened to be at the dealer when thinking about adding the siren, so they gave me a good deal on one. $20 less than the list price.
Does that mean it chirps every time you walk up or away from the bike? I know my lights flash every time I do that. Maybe you have the option of activating it?
Mine gives one small/quiet chirp when I turn the ignition on, & two when I turn it off. Startled me the first few times, but now I'd miss 'em if they didn't happen. They're not the alarm sounds, just soft chirps that let me know everything's workin'. *Not* like my wife's SUV that honks the friggin' horn every time you lock it!

Also, another difference. the HD siren has a built in back-up battery, so if they cut the bikes battery wire the siren still works. the RS siren is power from the bike battery and can be disabled by disconnecting/cutting one of the bikes battery wires.

It chirps only when turning the ignition on and off. Also, you can add the HD paging device with the siren module - if that's a consideration.
When I travel, I always try to park the bike where I can see it. Sometimes I see people too close to my bike (kids with sticks, rocks and sticky candy, and possible bike thieves). Is there a way to remotely activate the siren for a few seconds to scatter the undesirables?
I have an 08 Ultra w/ABS. To add the siren all I had to do is take the left side cover off, slip the unit into the retaining clips and plug the siren in. Replace the left cover and your done. The manual and instructions say to remove the right cover but maybe that's for non ABS bikes. Whatever no tools.
