Is it possible Donny is talking WOT only. At 'wide open throttle', manufacturers always bias the A/F ratio safely too rich, do to production variances which causes different engines to run different ratios. Better to error on the rich side.

Certainly possible. I just looked at the 3 maps I have for my stage 1 07. There are some negative values in some spots in some areas above normal cruise rpms.
Is Donny only talking about the 09's. my reason for the question is I called D&D exhaust asking about there new BOSS which they told me only on the 09 you can put on there BOSS (2 into 1 or slip-ons) and a high flow A/C WITH OUT ANY TUNING OR TUNER!!!
THEY ALSO SAID IT WOULD NOT WORK ON 07'S & 08'S
So hears my question what would a HD stage 1 down load do for a 09?
In the August issue of American Iron, Donny Petersens techline article deals with heads and exhaust systems. Deep in the article on page 60, he says when adding mufflers and an air cleaner that- "The stage 1 recalibration may or may not be necessary since many TC 96 Twin Cams already come with a slightly rich AFR from the factory".
Does that make any sense to anyone. I always thought the opposite!

I've read both of Donny's books on the Twin Cam. He definitely and arguably knows his stuff. Yes, he has his opinions and he states them extensively.
I myself chose to go straight to him with my questions. He answered my questions quickly and completely.
I called D&D myself and they told me that only on the 09's can you put a set of slip on's and a zippers high flow air cleaner and run it without any fuel management system. On 07's and 08's it cannot be done. Only on 09's. They told me that they tried race tuners, stage 1 downloads, and other fuel management systems and it didn't make one bit of difference, the air fuel ratio stayed the same. They also told me that they wouldn't put that claim out there if it wasn't true, that they spent a lot of dyno time before they made this claim.
I'm still a little skeptical, but call for yourself, they sound pretty convincing.

Now you are all taking advice from the great Donny Peterson, media guru of the HA's.
You're a fu##ing disgrace
As a personal friend of Donny's I'm curious why you are attacking him.
Donny is a very intelligent, giving and polite man and doesn't deserve to be slandered in such a manner. He is an incredibly thorough individual when it comes to authoring technical articles and if he states something in writing he is right more times than he is wrong.
Of course everybody has the right to disagree, but isn't it better to do so in a decent manner?
