Rode 26 hours straight only stopping for gas on a 6300 mile trip on my SG. I do have a Sundowner seat and backrest which makes a big difference.

Thanks for all of the responses. Looks like I really need Street Glide height, but seeing that the Classic and the Street Glide are basically the same price, it might be my best option to look at an Electra Glide Classic and make some changes to suit me, while getting some "bonus" storage in the process.

If I can replace the seat with a shorter one and the shocks with stock Street Glide shocks, I'll have a shorter bike comparable to the Street Glide, and if the extra storage on the Classic is removable I'll basically have what amounts to a Street Glide anyway when I'm tooling around town. I know the SG has extra chrome and fancy bits, but that's less important.

...or I can just go with the Street Glide to begin with and forget about the extra storage.

if they are the same price. get the classic, the tour pac is a very expensive accessory, shorter shocks and shorter seat are cheap in comparison, take off or add chrome to suit your style. just my opinion, both are great bikes

good luck

The wife and I just finished a second trip......this one 2,015 miles. I ride a Screamin Eagle Electra Glide but she rides an 09 Street Glide that she just loves. We didn't put any hard miles on in a day on this ride, but.........

We just got back from Canada about a month ago. That trip was about 4,000 miles and we did a little over 800 miles the first day.

I to used to ride a pan/shovel rigid frame (Harmon frame and Harmon front end) back in the early 70s. Had to cross over to a bagger (an old man's motorcycle and I'll never own one of those damn boats!) about 15 years ago and have never looked back. We take trips now that I never dreamed about.

My current bike is an 04 and I've been from the Atalantic ocean to the Pacific ocean in one trip. I've been to Canada three times and Mexico twice. Life's good on a bagger.

I think you're going to be real happy with the Street Glide. If you get an 09.......get the ABS. That system is incredable in gravel, on sand.....situations where not having it will get you into trouble and cost you money.

You can probably trade those stock Electra Glide shocks straight across for a pair of stock Street Glide shocks. There are those that buy the Street Glide for looks but want the comfort of the Electra Glide.

Corbin makes a close reach seat that puts you a couple of inches closer to the bars and about two inches closer to the street. She also had the nose narrowed even more, to bring her legs closer together so she could sit flat footed. See photos attached.....click on them to enlarge.

Also, she has the close reach touring bars.....they're 2" back" and 2" up from stock......closer to the rider.

I had the same question and found if I bought the EG I would be modifying it toward the SG ( lowering and quick release detach kit for the tour pak) and if I bought the SG I would be modifying it towards a EG ( storage ). I bought the SG with a sundowner seat, quick release back rest, and will add a quick release luggage rack. The EG just seemed to top heavy 2 up during stops for me I knew I would drop it in a parking lot sooner or later and the SG looks didn't help. I can say the SG will bottom out 2 up across rail road tracks ( I haven't adjusted the shock air pressure ) but for highway and interstate I/we have had no issues. I just watch for tracks and pot holes when riding on rougher rodes. 2500 miles so far, 2k 2 up.... I don't think you can go wrong with either bike.

A few notes - had an 07 EG classic. Now have an 09 Street Glide

1. The whole thing about the ride being worse is crap. In fact, my SG rides better- but that is because the 09s ride better. The ONLY difference is that the SG will bottom out a little faster. This only happens on very rough roads... for touring, the SG ride is the SAME. ALSO, the lower bike is more stable.

2. You get a LOT MORE with the Street Glide - besides it being lowered and the nicer gauges, it has chrome around the gauges. Also, it has a clean front fender, instead of the crappy rail and light. Also, you get the streamliner boards, which are much nicer, you get the bullet tail lights, and the very cool rear accent trim.

3. ALL the HD seats are crap. Buy a Mustang and you can ride forever. End of story.

4. You can put a tourpak on the Street glide. and it is very nice.

I tried to make my Classic into a street glide - it was not the same. I like the SG better, and I tour on it and love it.

Buy the street glide.

I just added a driver backrest and it made all the difference in the world. I will not do another long trip without the backrest.
+1 on getting the backrest. I only bought it a couple of weeks ago but already I think it was one of the best buys I'll ever make with the bike. I also bought a Clarks Windshield and think it was worth every penny. Not that the stock didn't look good but with Canadian summers being short the bugs come out in droves and all aiming for my teeth!

New seat and slightly taller windshield and the SG is great for the long haul.
