i was thinking about putting in the vance and hines fuel pak. it seems that my bike is running a little rich.i have a 2000 road king classic.i had the dealer install a stage 1 kit. i have a screaming eagle air cleaner, the new harley chip, and a set of vance and hines classic slip-ons. my question is,do i need the old chip put back in or will this chip be ok?also will this help leaning out my mixtuer a little.i know that running too lean will hurt the motor, and running too rich will too,im looking to try and get that happy medium!! any and all advice will be greatly apriciated(spelling) LOL!!
I dont think running rich ever damaged an engine, someone straighten me out. Lean is definatly bad. I told the dealer to leave it running rich after first service. Put on vance and hines later never changed anything, ran fine for 22,000 till I trader her in.
Fule Pak does the job. If you are not planning any other engine mods in the near future, it is the best bang for the buck. Easy to install, no DYNO needed.
thanks for the info guys!! i dont plan on doing any engine mods. bountyhunter, did you have to dyno the bike after the pclll was installed? getting a dyno run around here i big $$$$,thats why i was thinking about the fuel pac. ive heard that running rich will burn the valves and tha valve seats after time???
Ring i just took my fuel pak off because i was haveing problems with it.V&H said it was a bad one,and there replacing it with a brand new one!
When i installed it(in 15 min)it was really plug and play.It ran fine, but i guess i just got a bad one.I just insatlled a PCIII yesterday, because i plan on doing some eng mods later on!The PCIII is pretty much plug an dplay as well if you have a laptop.Insatll time was about the same and they have a ton of maps that works with all type of pipe combinations.
V&H dont have a program for stage 1 or 2 ecm. Also you can ride with out the dyno tune with the just the map loaded, but if you want to get maximum effeciency out of your specific map do the dyno if your bike is broke in already.
If you want the new fuel pak let me know i'll cut you a good deal.

first off...how do you know its rich....a common mistake folks make is thinkin that rich is safe....see, i got this 55 gallon drum an its full of pistons...from my experience, lean will show heat & melting on top of a piston....rich will collapse the ring lands...there is a tuning window ... rich is abit more forgiving, it'll chug & black smoke on a N/A motor before liftin the rings
