I have recently decided that I might like to get a custom paint job on my 08 SG. I started looking at a couple of places for doing this especially in the state that I live in. In my search I found a company called Vivid Dragon in Arizona. Their claim to fame is besides what looks like great paint schemes is the fact that they will either do a custom paint job on your tins or work on completely new tins correct for your model year and ship them to you and even give you a refund on your existing tins after the new ones have arrived if you so desire. You just ship back your tins to them in the boxes provided with your new tins when they arrive. Doing it this way does not tie up your bike at all. Depending on your model an 08 SG brings an even $1000.00 back to you as a credit back to your card. I have been thinking of doing this but custom paint is so damn expensive and even though it still is expensive Vivid Dragon is offering 40% now. I was wondering if any one had any experience with them as a company and if they had any first hand knowledge on their painting quality. http://vividdragon.com
I've not used Vivid Dragon but most good custom painters have tins on hand to swap. I had my Sportster done by Attitude Custom Paint in Florida and I couldn't be happier. I had my design on the side panel and we communicated back and forth, mostly via email and photos, very well. I had the spare tin to paint but scott offered to provide them and when I said I had my own he offered to buy my take offs. Excellent job.
I have not, but recomend you give Chris @ HighPoint Paint & Body a try. He did mine and my wifes bikes and did quality work/reasonable turn around at a very reasonable price. I searched and went to numerous shops for quotes around the triad area and no one came close to his prices for the high quality. Depending on where you are in Charlotte, it should not be too long a haul up 85 to get to his place.
Here's a link to a pic I posted of her bike that he did in black pearl with pink pearl racing stripes...picked it up just a few weeks ago and only took a week to turn around.
