Default 5th gear noise 2009 Road King

Just picked up a new 2009 Road King last week and noticed a distinct gear whine in 5th gear. Seems to be improving with some miles. Is this normal and should I expect it to resolve after the 1000 mile service. I plan to go with synthetic at that time. Any thoughts?

Have it on my new 09 King as well. Some guys think swithching to synthetic will quiet her down a bit. I did at 1k service and didnt seem to matter much. Has to do with the cut on 1st and 5th gear straight vs helical on others. Dont sweat it and hopefully it will quiet down over time. Enjoy the ride!!

Search function works wonders as i have found out. It is normal, don't worry about it. Its the cut of the gears.

the noise on mine peaked around 4000 miles. Now at 8100 it is hardley noticeable, I intentionally run in fifth every chance I get. I think that once the gear set meshes up and runs in, the noise goes down.

I noticed it almost immediately on my 09 RKC. When I switched to synthetic at the 1K service it did not matter.
Now I use it to know when I am in 5th gear.......:0)

It's the gear cut.....seems to be no issue.

It will go away with miles.....not completely......but it will go away. My 07 used to sound like my wifes 09....like a turbo kicked in when in 5th....after about 5,000 it went away to a faint whisper of its old self.

My Ultra has it too and I'm going to try the RedLine gear lube at next check.

My dealer reccomended Drag Specialties 85/140 transmission fluid- I put it in at the 1000 mile change- again at the 5000 and just did the 10,000 mile. The whine has gotten progressively quieter and at 11,500 seems to be gone.
