I had a leak on my 05 RK in the same spot. I would see a couple of drops after a good ride of 300-500 km on the garage floor. It turned out to be the shifter shaft seal and I had it covered under warranty. I thought with that job the primary and clutch all had to be removed to get at the seal and is alot more than a 5 minute job? I could be wrong though. No leak since then.

I should have gotten them to put the chrome primary cover on while they were at it.

Chop.

I'm betting that is the leak he has, but it was no 5 minute fix for me. $300 and four hours labor.

well what did you screw up...with the inner off the shifter shaft seal is in plain view and costs LESS than 3 bucks....poke an awl into the metal lip and pry it out...press the new one in with your thumb

Yes, the shifter seal is cheap, but its four hours labor for removing and reinstalling the inner. Odds are that his shifter seal is the leak.

its not a 4 hour job unless youre either mechanically deficiant or drinkin beer with too many buddies while doing it.....it takes me less than 15 minutes to break the entire primary off.....if you have the dealer do it, or ask them what it takes, you got lied to and raped

Maybe so, but I know that is about the going rate. give or take an hour. I would however like to watch you do it in 15 minutes. Not because I don't think you could, I do. I would just like to see how you do it.

youre not far bro....come on down....i'll outline it here.....get a dewalt 1/4" impact with the correct allen or torx to zip off the outer while youre drainin the fluid....take your 1/2" impact with proper sockets and bust off the comp nut and clutch nut(reverse threaded), pull the comp, clutch, & primary chain assembly as one unit....next get your dewalt 1/4 impact back out and zip the 6 or 8 bolts holding the inner....tap tap with a rubber hammer and it'll come off in your hand....there's the seal...pop it out, pop it in....reverse the order to install.....simple

Well there you go. Now you've got the specific directions on how to do it. Another benefit of being a member of HDForums.

I agree. You should have it replaced while it's apart. Heel shifters are really hard on them.

I had the shifter seal leak on my 05. Very common. Not sure about the 5 min. fix aclass refered to as I still had to take the primary off to get to it.
