Hey guys, just a heads up. I was told about a rash of "rigged" gas pumps. There have been people complaining about prices not adding up. Its a little harder to check on the bikes, but next time you fill up your cage stop it at 10 gallons and do some quick math. Just thought I'd pass it on to some of my fellow gas burners......
If the figuring does not come out right, look for a sticker on the pump for the Dept. of Agriculture. If it has a phone number on it, you should call the number and report the station in question. Fooling with a pump can be a serious offense if it has been tampered with.
Call the states "weights and measures". Don't let these dirtbags get away with ripping you off.
I've seen pumps that start at .02....Illegal.

I don't know about the new 6-gal. tanks, but the older 5-gal. tanks hold 5.4 gal. I've filled mine up past 5 gal. numerous times, so don't blame the pump in this case.
He is not saying that the amount of gallons dispensed is wrong. He is saying that when gas is $3.00 a gall at 10 gallons it should read $30 not $34....
This stealing has been reported as "common" at independent stations in Eastern Canada--my original notification in late May---also contained some strong racial comments as to owner operators

I would think,if the store owner was going to do something to the pump, they would alter the gallons readout...anything else is just too easy to spot....about a year ago I put 16 gallons into a vehicle with a 16 gallon tank, according to the manual...had the vehicle for 10 years and never had I put that much gas in it....PLUS I had almost a quarter tank...didnt say anything to the clerk...reported the store and actually saw the W&Ms guys there two days later...had the entire pump area taped off....received a letter from W&Ms about a month later with detailed results...said they found no violations
If they have their prices adjusted on the pump slightly, it adds up, but with so many cars having odd sized tanks, 18 gallon, 23 gallon, etc. unless you actually due the math, a lot of people wouldn't notice. Think about how much an increase in just a few cents impacts your monthly gas expenses, now multiply that by how many people fill up in a day at a busy station. I bet it adds up more than you think. I didn't make this thread for as some kind of theory for people to shoot holes in, I posted it so you could be watching for it. If you don't feel the need to then don't......
and that is why i only get gas at reputable stations, and even then, when i get to five gallons i'll do some quick math in my head. no not meth in my head. math. i'm such a tightwad that i will not allow myself to get screwed out of a quarter.
