Default Cutting the Filter?

Anyone with experience in cutting open their oil filter to check for tensioner pieces, please let me know what you used to do the cutting.

I'm debating: Dremel, which I assume would make a mess of the Dremel, or hack/metal saw, which would be more strenuous, but the saw would probably be easy to clean.

My hands aren't worth crap (R/A) so...........

Thanks in advance.

I believe I used a Dremel on the first oil filter I took off my 2007 Road King. Cut it near the base and pulled the can off. It wasn't as bad as mess as I had imagined, but I did let the filter drain for a couple of days first.

After looking at the inside of a genuine H-D filter, I was impressed by the quality of construction.

I punched a hole in the end and let it drain that way for a bit, then I cut the base off on my band saw about 3/8" up.

a buddy of mine owns a muffler shop... went down there and used his LARGE tubing cutter. this is the cleanest way...no debris from bandsaws or hacksaws. or the drimel oil slinger.lol been searching on ebay for a large tubing cutter just haven't found one yet.

I don't plan on cutting too many more open, I am going to change out the cam plate to the upgraded version with the new and improved hydraulic tensioners.

Dremel works, use a cutoff wheel.
