I will probably catch some flack from the regulars here for asking this. I am sure the answer is in one of these forums. Please don't kill the NOOB!!
I am currently stationed in IRAQ, and have the opportunity to buy a Harley through the military sales program. I have an '05 FLSTCI with V&H Longshot HS pipes, and absolutely love it. I am looking at the FLHX. The rep here said that I can buy either year I would like. My question is in regards to the 2-1 exhaust. Aesthetically, I am not sure I like it. How does a 2-1 affect the performance over a 2-1-2 or true duals. I am a cruiser, not a hot-rodder, and would consider putting true-duals on a 2010.
On the FLHX I personally would go for the 2010. Mostly because the 2010 has an 18" wheel and the 09 has a 17" front wheel. A lot of people dont like the way the 2-1 looks but its proven to perform better. Having said that, I have an 09 RKC and it has 16" wheels and I think its the best riding bike available from the MOCO. It also has a 2-1 thunderheader with a falsee. The best of both worlds.
Buy the 2010. Why buy a year old bike? If you are buying through the military sales program, the price is probably close. Of the three exhausts you mention, the true duals are the least efficient but for normal riding the difference is probably not perceptible. Good luck.
