17,000 mi. on an 07 RKC using syn3, bike was under warranty and using syn 3 easier then an argument with dealer. Changed last week to redline v twin with shockproof in tranny and redline v primary. Put mobile 1 20/50 for v twin in engine.
800 miles into this change and I am impressed. The engine runs cooler, feels stronger and top end has become quite. Tranny upshifts at times silently and the down shift clunks have softened.
For all you guys that recomended these fluids in dozens of threads I thank you.
I have a 07 EGS, 26k miles, switched to the Redline in tranny and primary @ 15k. Mine shifts smoother and quieter also, I really like the Redline product line.
I agree with the Redline in the tranny but the Mobil1 made my SG very noisy. Went back to HD Dino and added about a pint of Lucas oil additive and all is quiet again.
I use HD dino all the time, when I need to rebuild the engine, I will let You all know how good it works. Won't know until then, and can't say until then. I don't think any of us who use different oils can say until a engine rebuild is needed. Maybe someone can give us the answer. What kind of oil is used, and how many miles did You have before Your engine required to be rebuilt?
Just had a conversation with my neighbor about oil for his 08 ultra.. he came back with a 5 qt jug of 15w50 Mobil 1 from walmart 22.00 and a hd filter ... Doesnt need the tranny or primary change right now.. Im going the same route next time and im also gonna try atf in the primary on my 06.. I just cannot justify 40 to 50 dollars for 4 qts of oil..
i've been meaning to find out if shell rotella synthetic would meet the specs that are required by harley. i was using royal purple synthetic 20-50 in the motor and primary, and the rp 75-140 in the trans. a few months ago it was 7.99 a quart for the royal purple oil. it shot up to 16.99 a quart. why? heck i don't know, but that killed it for me. i really like the royal purple, but at that price i gotta search elsewhere. amzoil is a good product too, but i need something that i can get anywhere, and that kills the amzoil for me. availability is a big issue for me. and i agree, a good synthetic will improve the smoothness and drop the heat it seems to me anyway.
