Default Harley Hammock Seat report

Guys, I ordered and installed the Hammock seat after enduring a 250 mile ride on the stock FLHX seat. It was misery. For starters, I am a skosh over 6'4" and upwards of 350 lbs. Think "retired NFL nose tackle" if you are gracious (or "big fat bastard" if you are not)

On my '06 I had the "tallboy" seat and loved it in every possible way. Unfortuately, the '09 frame is different, and the tallboy that fits the '09 is totally different from the '06.

So I figure, What the hell... and order the hammock seat. First impressions is "man what a big sucker this thing is". The riders area looks about the same dimensions as a police solo saddle. It is also noticably flat. As in very little "bucket". For me, thats a plus. I hate the Sundowner seats because they have such a prounounced bucket. It would be fine if I was castrated, as it seems the front of the sundowner seems to want to intrude on my.. ahem... "personal space"

The second thing to strike me is that its seems very light. Not sure if thats a good thing, or a bad thing. Also, I'm not wild about the vinyl covering. Its stylish and well made, but still, it just dont "feel" right. For the money, I think it should have at least had the seating surfaces made of leather.

Took the wife out to dinner on it, and she pronounced it as "good". Then I went on a 300 mile solo ride yesterday. After that ride, I will also pronounce it as "good". Maybe even "great". My butt never really gave me a minutes trouble. A couple of times I started feeling the onset of church-***, but a simply shifting of riding position took care of that. Strange thing is that usually my knees are acting up after that long a ride, but they never did on this one. Dont know if the seat had anything to do with it, but it was nice to be able to walk normally right after parking it.

Some have said the anchor points for the hammock mechanism are noticable and intrusive. I did not find that the case. The seat foam seemed to hold up well. We'll have to see what the long term brings.

Overall, I give it about an 8 on a 10 scale. It be a 9 or maybe a bit more if it was all leather. As always, some will say that its a piece of junk, that I should have bought a mustang, or had so-and-so cut down my OEM seat. But I could care less. I can drain a tank of fuel in a single sitting, and do that a couple or three times a day. That means it's just right for me.

I'm not as big a fat Batsard as you are, I'm a slim 6'0 and 220. LOL
I have the same opinion of the Sundown though. I just kept getting my boys smashed.

I have heard good things about the Hammock on here, I'm glad you found something that will work.

i got lucky with streetglide seats. i'm 6'4" tall but weigh just over 200#, and found a 2009 roadglide take off stock seat in the classifieds section of this forum. i could not be happier. it's got a much flatter platform, and to see how the stitching on the seat flow inline with the tank console, it actually looks like it was made for the streetglide. it's also got a much better seat for the passenger. it's the best 125$ i've spent on my harley yet. it did raise me up about an inch or a little more, but that's okay, now if you're vertically challenged, it's not gonna work out for you, but if you want something comfortable that also doesn't look dorky, then the roadglide seat is something to consider. yeah, the stock streetglide seats are about as practical as the stock windshield. they both look cool on the showroom floor, but in the real world, they don't work.
