RK Custom handlebars
Hello everyone.
I am new to the forums, yet have been reading the posts for some time now. I recently took delivery of a beautiful black cherry pearl Road King Custom. It's a world of difference from my old Sportster. I was curious if anyone has been able to run the wiring internally through the stock bars which have a 1 1/4" diameter on the Custom model. If so, what is involved? (i.e. drilling, purchase of new wiring) I thoroughly enjoy the site and all the information it offers. I'm looking forward to your replies.

I guess you could probably run the wires internally should you drill the holes at the controls to feed them through. Bars that are set up to have wires ran internally have the hole at the controls as well as a detent so there isnt the sharp edge at the hole opening. Wire lengths should be okay, just write down the wire placement (the connectors are numbered) and remove the wires. They are held in the connectors by a locking tab.
I believe I may have the same bike as yours - black cherry pearl with black pearl two tone - love it! I have a set of extended reach handlebars that I will probably install myself in the near future. The HD catalog lists 2 needed items - braided brake line kit (which I have already installed) and an extended wire harness. I may just cut and splice the wires myself since there aren't really that many. A bit of shrink tubing and some solder and it should be pretty straight forward (famous last words?).....a complicating factor for me is the cruise control I have installed - the extended wire harness doen't come with that part if I'm not mistaken. So, might as well do the whole cut and splice thing. I have also added chrome until there's hardly anything left to chrome (gulp). The most difficult job was the installation of chrome switch housings - took more time than I thought it would - but, interesting. Enjoy the Road King - best bike I've owned to date (including a BMW R1100RT which liked to surge).
