I went off and forgot that my light was on one time and saw it was on when I started. I pulled up to a light and it started loping like an evo and that light above my head went on. There was a Wally World station couple miles down the road so thats where I headed. Trouble was it was a little hilly between here and there. Happened three times, when I was going downhill it would die but I could restart it after I finally got going uphill again. Pulled into the station with 219.3 miles on trip. So if anyone asks how far can I go I say 219.3 miles.

and that's when i found out that the little "r" and the number 38 does not mean that you've got 38 miles until you hit reserve. it means that when the r lights up with a 38, that's how many miles you've got remaining, until you're tank's dry. i won't make that mistake twice.

Well, further down the road in the eye-blink townish thing @ the intersection w/ US24 the gas station was no longer there. I decided to head downhill back toward Buena Vista & KNEW there was gas in Granite....... nope, the station & liquor store had both closed 4 the season, so it was 'head on out on faith' that I'd make Buena Vista on fumes. A couple'a miles down the road I crested a hill & the Glide sputtered out, I coasted down the other side a ways, pulled off & let her sit for a couple minutes & she found enough fumes to fire back up. Another mile or so, again @ the top of a hill, she sputtered out again. I coasted all the way down the hill, finally stopping along the river near a rafting camp. The one camper that was up & around said the guy that ran the place had left & he had no idea when he'd be back. As I wandered around the premises i came upon a pressure washer that'd been left out, along w/it's attendant (& about 1/2 full) 3 gallon can of gas. I told the camper that I needed to buy some of the operator's gas, poured a gallonish into the RG, put a $5bill and a business card in the can's handle W/A note saying to tell me if I owed him any more. Then I fired the scooter up & w/relative peace of mind made it into Buena Vista where several gas stations were finally open. Whew !
Great story!

Ran out on 476 (what use to be called the north east extension of the PA turnpike) passing a car. Spit sputtered and now I have to try not to get killed getting to the shoulder. I knew I needed gas before we left but forgot. Gas light came on just after the toll plaza and I THOUGHT I could make it to RT 80. NOT!! Found a 20oz pepsi bottle on the side of the road and pulled the overflow hose off a friends Dyna for a siphon. I could have peed faster. 2 bottles later, fired it up and stopped at the next rest stop with was 3 miles down the road.

When I bought my 1200 Sporty, I thought the guy said to start looking for a station about 150 mi. At about 103 I was in a one lane construction zone following a pilot car when I ran out. luckily I was not on reserve but the pilot car driver and the drivers waiting to go the other way were not happy to wait on me to turn it on reserve and get out of the three miles of construction. this is my first Harley and I had not rode any motorcycle in 30 years. Now at 90 or so miles I start looking for station.

Every bike I get, new or used, I put a gallon of gas on the bike and run it until it stops. This will give you some sort of idea as how far I can go.
I do not always stop and fill up when the light comes but I do have a good idea when I need to stop for fuel. If am not sure where a station is (on a trip) I always fill up when taking a ride.
